We opened up a delivery from Bosch eBike Systems, fully expecting to see a shiny new Kiox 400C display upgrade we’d ordered for a customer’s Cube e-bike.

Instead, staring back at us, was this little beauty.

Not a screen. Not a gadget you’ve already seen ten times on Instagram.
This is the BCM3100 Connect Module — a properly clever bit of kit Bosch have been quietly keeping under their hat.

It slots neatly into your e-bike’s cable run and does one very important thing:
lets you track your bike’s location at all times through the Flow app.

Which, let’s be honest, brings a huge amount of peace of mind when you consider that your e-bike is probably:
a) the most expensive thing you own on two wheels, and
b) the most fun thing you own full stop.

You know you always hear everyone queuing up to say someone who has just passed was a lovely person. Well, I only met Mani twice — the first time with my former, brilliant yet difficult, two-time business partner James Masters in Kro Bar in Heaton Chapel.

Mani came straight over and went, “Do you want a beer, lads?” Even though it was midday on a Tuesday, I just had to say yes. The release of the Stone Roses’ debut album was perfectly timed to soundtrack me pretending to revise for my GCSEs, and I had it on constant rotation through that pivotal summer of ’89.

We had a really funny, pretty long-winded chat and I gave him a flyer — he said, “The name is fu***ng brilliant, mate.”

He was jaw-droppingly sound and genuine. I commented to James about that when we got back to our meeting, and James goes, “Well, you would be generous if you’d just made 15 million from doing a few concerts.”

Whether James knew that for sure, I don’t know. But what I do know is it couldn’t have happened to a nicer, more deserving bloke, and he spread his good fortune like he spread his musical genius and encouragement - everywhere.

I hope James and him are having a beer and a laugh at our expense somewhere right now. I’ll be raising a glass to the pair of them at the Hacienda at the Warehouse Project this Saturday night. RIP - you pair of rascals ❤
