Customer feedback from day 1 of Everything Electric Show NORTH 😃

1. People don’t realise that e-scooters are legal to ride (like cycles) in most countries around the world. The UK is behind the curve on this one. Haven’t they been banned in Paris? No! Only the dockless rentals were banned, not the privately owned ones! The reverse of the UK! We have been fed a whole bunch of BS by the media.

2. Saddles and pedals. The two things that prevent e-scooters being permitted like bikes, are the features which actually present a problem for some people. These people are non-cyclists and they want an option that enables them to get out and about. They’re not wheelchair users, but regular people who have a huge variety of barriers that prevent them from cycling. When you listen to people you discover quickly that the active travel agenda is not inclusive! (Just for clarity, I’m writing this as a keen cyclist.)

3. EVs! People are very aware of polluting short distance car journeys and congestion and want more clean options. Electric cars are not the option they are looking for - they don’t solve the congestion issue!

4. Freedom and Independence. People are aware of micromobility and were dumbfounded when I explained the outdated regulatory barriers that are preventing people from using e-scooters and getting out and about.

5. Innovation - lots of innovation in this space which currently try to fit existing EAPC regulation, but in fact would rather just be L-ZEV up to 1000w, up to 20mph. There could be so much value in this category for Net Zero! Particularly, where the public transport and cycle lanes are limited and there are big hills, like the north!

“So you’re telling me, it’s got two wheels, brakes and a handlebar just like an e-bike, but I can’t ride it? But why? It’s the same innt it!” (don't you just love a straight-talking yorkshireman?)

Yes sir, yes it is the same.

I often run things by my dad. He's a smart experienced person with a certain, let's call it 'rebellious' streak, who better to ask?

One question he asked about our new Stand-On Moped was, "What's it like riding without a seat?"

There's only one answer to that! Absolutely BRILLIANT!

I don't feel less safe, I just feel so much more comfortable.

I actually feel more balanced, agile and in control.

"A glimpse into the future of urban mobility" Thanks to Tony Tompkins for the write-up on our 24mph Stand-On Moped the GT500 😎 Great to read his thoughts on this new category too. Since you need a CBT, insurance, and you're not allowed in the bike lane - I mean, who exactly needs this scooter?!?!?

Here's some initial customer feedback:

1. The GT500 is great for people who don't have any bike lanes! (Let's face it, we could be waiting 30 years for a cycle lane along my route.) Yes I want to go that little bit faster than a 15.5mph e-bike, and standing tall among the traffic, yes this absolutely works well.

2. The GT500 is lightweight and versatile. It's more nimble and manageable at 30kgs. I don't want a traditional sit-down moped because they weigh 75-100kg!

3. I love the way it FEELS! I can just step on and go. I know I can just get to where I need to be. I won't have to think about my fitness or clothing, I can just get there. (And yes the smug factor for travelling at £0.006 per mile Zero Emissions is VERY appealing 😎 😎 😎 😎 )

Sustainable Travel Brand Swifty Launches First UK Road-Legal E-Scooter The Swifty GO GT500 is the first e-scooter to receive official approval for road use in the UK, becoming the first road-legal e-scooter that a consumer can buy.

I just passed my CBT!

There are so many very tempting Light Electric Vehicles on the market now I would recommend anyone taking this Compulsory Basic Training / motorcycle test - I had such a fun day!

Things to know:

1. I rode an automatic 125cc petrol scooter provided by the test centre.

2. I learnt controlled manoeuvres in the morning.

3. Then on road riding with an instructor in the afternoon.

4. The test cost £170 and needed a helmet, jacket (borrowed!) and gloves

5. At the end of the day I received my certificate! 🎉

I can now obtain insurance from eavi.uk for my Stand-On Moped, SwiftyGO GT500 😎😎😎 and can travel at £0.006 per mile at zero emissions 🌳.

(That’s about £2 A WEEK in travel cost for my commute 😃😃😃)
