The scheduled squad session on 15th March has been moved back by one week.

The session will now take place on:

Graham Ellis (Lancashire)

A bit about myself.

I am the type of person who gets satisfaction from helping/teaching/supporting people. Started coaching 50 years ago coaching the Greater Manchester Schools Badminton to National success. Considered a career as a Ski instructor but got married instead and took up golf to Cat 1 standard. Volunteered as a walk leader for HF Holidays for 15 years leading guests on walks around the UK and Europe giving me an understanding of the importance of differing styles of leadership to meet individual needs.

I was introduced to Bowls in Australia 12 years ago on the premise of cheap beer whilst visiting our daughter. But almost immediately ended up playing weekly in the Melbourne Metro Pennant. It was here that I understood the importance of coaching in bowls, the leagues are very competitive and if you were not attending squad training sessions you did not play the following week.

Unfortunately when playing in the UK coaching was seen as just for beginners. Since qualifying I have tried to change this thought process likening it to golf where players regularly utilise a PGA pro to improve or solve problems. When talking to elite players I point out the way top golfers and all regularly use coaches to maintain their form.
I am also passionate about taking bowls to school and SEN groups engaging with local schools and groups to promote bowls as an activity that can be undertaken by all.

I currently coach two schools during summer. A group of club members who attend weekly coaching outdoors even during winter . I run Lancashire Ladies squad sessions monthly and firmly believe that I am making progress as Middleton Cup players have started to ask for help on specific areas. I am looking forward to working with these as I progress through the level 3 course.
