My 5 simple tips for successful racing this weekend!

With CKO athletes in action at both Bolton and Warsaw 70.3 this weekend, I thought it would be a good time to share a couple of last minute tips to get you through the next couple of days!

At this point, there’s little fitness to be earned but there is a lot of mindset, rest and replenishment to be boosted. Focus on your well being for your optimal result right now.

Racing isn’t about being perfect. It’s about showing up with the fitness you’ve built, the lessons you’ve learned, and the courage to see what happens. Let’s do this!

We are getting to the pointy end of the season where races are starting to come in thick and fast. When you’ve been training hard all winter the warmer days and lighter nights are great for getting out on the bikes and those light mornings make early swim training feel so much better!

But what if the pre race nerves are hitting? Or what if you’ve picked up the cold virus that’s been doing the rounds? Or your hip is hurting; or that knee that you’ve been protecting is grumbling to you?

My key focus is working with athletes to consolidate the work that they HAVE done. We focus on “do no harm” so we don’t train when we are injured or ill and we take optimal recovery periods. Going into a race over cooked can be worse than under cooked and if you’ve done the base training your body and mind can adapt well to the challenges ahead!

Being an athlete means that you can do hard things; and part of my job as a coach is giving you the resilience to believe in yourself, no matter the obstacles you face.

So if you want to talk to someone about your training and life around it; I’m definitely a good starting point.

I’ve posted this photo for sympathy purposes: the hard thing I did this week is have my massive tooth out on Monday… I was very brave but I didn’t get a sticker unfortunately 😂😂😂

Female athletes deserve bespoke, female specific coaching. There is no one size fits all.

Training, recovery, fuelling and performance should acknowledge:

Menstrual cycle
Hormonal fluctuations
Perimenopause
Energy availability
Female physiology

I coach the person before the athlete.
