Photo dump from last week's trail run.

Luckily all my weird niggles from this year's training have been non-existent since my last race, so the only thing holding me back on this route were my little legs πŸ˜‚ trying to keep up with Jacob was a laugh.

I was very grateful for the sunshine; hopefully we will have many more days like this in autumn.

Anyway, I've been up to a lot behind the scenes, so keep an eye out for some interesting updates over the next few weejs.

I've got Hyrox Manchester in November, so my training for the next month will be working on those weaknesses as much as I reasonably can until then πŸ’ͺ

The worn out bib number as a metaphor for how the day went...

It did not go to plan.

DNF.

But this is a side of racing that doesn't get shown very often. I am still very new to this whole Ultra distance fell running game, and I am not unhappy with myself considering how this year has been overall.

I managed 42/50km, in very muddy conditions. It rained all day. My clothes failed me and I got soaked through, and was running/hiking in sodden socks and shoes for 9 hours before packing it in.

I mentally had a bad week; a lot of self-doubt and negative self-talk, mixed in with some testing which showed reduced numbers in a few things, so this was all against me come race day.

And I just wasn't enjoying myself on the day. It was truly awful and I started getting mad at the slippy rocks and the amount of mud from the trail being ruined by the previous 400+ runners.

It's all part and parcel of it, but it is still difficult to train for the exact conditions.

So, now I am looking at my accomplishments so far this year, and then looking ahead for the races I have planned next year, and how to be as successful as possible!

The great news is I did not get injured. In fact, aside from massive fatigue, my body is recovering really well.

How is training going this week?
For me, I am two weeks back from my long holiday and have been slowly working myself back to "normal training".
But this is all part of the process. It's never "starting from scratch", just an ebb and flow of training over the year ☺️
