Recently had a chat about all things racing and living with IBD, we even brought up that Hour Record.

Ellie did an amazing job putting some of my journey into words, if you’re interested in what goes into just getting to a start line with a chronic heath condition, give it a read.

Time for some new adventures in 2025. Got a lot of plans and opportunities that I’m really excited to try my hand at next year and that meant some changes to give it a good nudge.

Next year I will be playing bikes as part of the race team. This year has taught me that my enjoyment in cycling is in the pursuit of progress and the team looks like a good place to chase some.

This isn’t the end for Real Guts Racing, what good I’ve seen it having done means too much to me for that, it’s just not going to be on my license. And while I still stand by the fact that red is faster, I’m sure the team can close the gap 😉

Scottish Track Championships, 4 years since my last visit, and honestly I’m pretty happy having improved across the board, still mistakes to learn from but that’s the idea ain’t it 👌

The lads at the front this weekend are a step above and dialled in every sense. It’s great just to watch as a student of sport.

Thanks to everyone who raced, helped, organised or watched. The track felt quiet at times, but still having the event felt very appreciated. At least for me it felt like it was a good closer to the calendar year, as well as a bookend to a chapter. More to come but it deserves its own post. 🤙

That was certainly one way to end the season.
Scottish Hillclimb champs 🚵‍♂️

I had a slightly different objective for this ride, returning to cycling and racing this year has been one hell of an adventure. Filled with amazing people and going to some pretty awesome places, both physically and mentally. So, I thought, when’s a better time to stop and reflect on everything that happened this year, then at the top of a climb and the final road finish line of the year.
To add to that my power meter decided to die on the start line, I actually laughed 10m in when I noticed, it felt right, just to ride it.

So after hauling myself up 3km of a nice climb and 1km of cliff at the end 😂 I got to tick off my final goal of the season.

Take in the view.

Very chuffed to have taken the overall in the Fife Midweek League this year 🏆. I previously took the win for the first time in 2021, before stepping away from bikes altogether for over 2 years.

To say a lots changed since would be an understatement.
In every possible sense this has been the healthiest run I’ve had at a season. I’m so grateful for every race.

The Fife midweek series is surely the most consistent series in road cycling in Scotland. This is due to an amazing group of volunteers and organisers that keep this sport going, and a place for me to learn to love racing again.
Thank you.

I’ve missed a breakaway. Jack Campbell Memorial RR at the weekend. Having missed a few winning moves this year I was keen to get up the road.

Snuck off the front in lap 3 in what would eventually become a 4 man move with some strong lads. Worked well together till the sparks started flying on the run in, tried what I could but legs didn’t have more to give. Came away with 4th, my best road result so far this year. Big cheers to Royal Albert Cycling Club for organising, I’ll be back.

So appreciative of the fact that I’ve still got consistent legs, honestly it’s still foreign after years of battling flare ups and taking what I could.

Still got a last few weeks of road season to go, let’s see what we can do with it.

A Sunday morning rip round the old Freuchie 10 course for the Kennoway RC 10TT. The course has been threatened by traffic lights for a few years so any chance to get one last PB will always give a little more incentive.

This one meant a little more on this occasion, 3 years ago I DNF’d this event, pulling up after 2 miles unable to go on. It was a couple days after a personal loss and the start of a really dark period in my life.

3 years, a long journey and the help of amazing people later and I have a new course PB.
Came 🥈 with 20:37.
Maybe now you can call it a comeback ❤️😉
