Great night out with the boys and parents under the City Ground lights last night. Watching England u21s put on a show and beat Serbia u21s 9-1 ⚽️🦁🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Really good to take the boys to a proper ground with such a rich football heritage. Most of them support lower calibre teams such as Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool so was a real eye opener for them 😉

Here’s to the next outing ⚽️🦁⚽️🦁⚽️🦁⚽️🦁

A share of the spoils today! 🤝

A fair result for both teams, chances each end and not much separating both teams.

Once again energy levels were where we expect them to be, positionally we were great at holding our shape to soak up and sniff out goal scoring opportunities. Our counter attacking and ability to pass and move worked well to cause problems for our opposition. Subs came on and didn’t let the pace of the game affect them and made impacts all over the pitch which is exactly what we want.

Massive well done to Dimi for lion of the match. He worked the middle of the park really well, covered his defensive duties perfectly, never let his head drop and took any attacking chance in his stride.

Well done Dimi! 🏆

That’s more like it lions !!!

A complete turn around from last weeks disappointing result.

Energy levels were high from the first whistle and the ball moved fast and accurately. We created so many goal scoring chances, chased down and worked hard when we lost possession. Everyone fulfilled their rolls whether coming on as a sub or when asked to play in a different position. A real teams performance.

All we can ask is for this to follow on to next weekends match. We know how good you are on your day, but it’s up to you to show it.

Lion of the match could have gone to a number of players today but Charles played one of his best games to date, he listed to instructions and released the ball when he needed to bringing more players into the attacking game and capitalising on his chances in front of goal.

Well done Charles! 🏆

Tough lesson today lions!

The game plan was simple for today, press hard, get challenges in and win the 2nd ball.

We have played our opponent enough times through the year to know they are a good physical, hard working team but unfortunately at times we were too negative, sitting deep and inviting them to do what they are best at and in the end we paid the price.

We can all agree it was not our day all over the pitch but we definitely had positives to take from the game, in particular the defence were strong, held a good line and made countless well timed challenges.

We will take todays result on the chin and bring it back to training and work on it again.

Todays lion of the match goes to Shippo for his performance in the heat of our defence, keeping their strong attacking players chances as low as possible and for not losing focus for the full 60 mins!

Well done Shippo! 🏆

Well played lions!

A game of two halves by our own standards.

1st half we were very guilty of not matching the energy shown by our opponent and losing our individual battles but we were still in the game.
2nd half we spoke to the team and made it clear what we wanted to see from them, they came out dusted themselves off and every single one of them gave a good account of themselves and that’s all we can ask for.

Improvements can be made and hard work is the way forward. Plenty to take back to training so we can develop and learn from when playing a physical team but we will always play the Ashfield way.

Todays lion of the match goes to Charles for being the driving force in attacking positions and never giving the opponent a second even if it resulted in receiving late challenges through out the game.

Well done Charles! 🏆

Well battled today lions!

A very hot energy draining game against a fast well drilled and talented team today.

In the first half we defended as a unit, attacked with pace and used the full width of the pitch. The second half took its toll on everybody and we lost our shape but everyone on the pitch put in the effort.

So rest up and we reset for the next one!

Todays lion of the match goes to Josh for being a brick wall, saving multiple attempts from every possible angle. A truly outstanding captains performance!

Well done Josh! 🏆

What a way to start the new season!

Great performance from the whole team today. We went into the game having not played our best in a friendly on Thursday, we asked the team to play with some fire in their belly and show how we play the Ashfield way and I’m pleased to say they took on the instruction and then some!

Every single player played with desire and passion from the first minute to the very last. We pressed the opposition all over the pitch and never really allowed a very good team to get into their stride. The defence played extremely well together, the midfield worked their socks off and the strikers never gave up on a single ball.

Todays lion of the match was actually chosen by the referee, he was somewhat impressed with how Shippo played in the centre of the defence, he came over at the end and made a point of awarding him Player of the Match 👏🏼

Lion of the Match could have gone to every player in the team today but we can see why he chose Shippo. Calm on the ball, very composed, made the right decisions in knowing when to clear the ball and when to dribble out and start the transition from defence to attack.

Well done Shippo 🏆🦁⚽️

Great team performance boys! Well done!!

☀️ This year we decided to start a new tradition with an annual beach day! 🏖️

Yesterday was our first one and just shows what an amazing bunch of parents and kids we have! We are very lucky to have such a wonderful footballing family!

We've all had the best day at the beach together... paddle boarding, canoeing, body boarding, a few games of good old rounders and of course football! ☀️☀️☀️

So heartwarming to see all the boys playing and laughing together 🦁 ⚽️

We can't wait for the next one!

Well done lions!

That’s our summer league fixtures over and we definitely feel we saved the best performance for last.

From every ball kicked to every challenge made, the team played out of their skin.
Looking back of the last month or so you can really see an upward curve in the lions performance as a team and it’s brilliant to see but we can’t rest there, we know improvements can still be made and it all starts with hard work on the training pitch ready for the start of the next season.

For the first time we have two Lions of the match so we need to say a massive well done to Dimi and Hixxy who have picked up a joint lion of the match award for their individual performances tonight. 👏👏👏

Well done Dimi and Hixxy! 🏆

Good company ✅✅

Another year rounded off with the Ashfield family to give both age groups the praise they fully deserve for another incredible season.

Thank you to everyone who came to make it a special night and thank you for the continued support on the side lines and those soggy nights on the training pitch.

Let’s make this season as good at the last and hear those lions roar. 1.2.3.lions 🙌

Another summer league fixture complete and a big well done to the team!

We set the team some challenges for yesterdays match, we asked them to try and focus on passing, using the width of the pitch and retaining possession when it was lost as fast as possible. To keep the team on their toes we even threw in a formation change, rotating players around during the game.

After a battling performance the lions performed well on every target set, they created a number of different chances resulting in goals being shared out amongst the team.

Yesterday’s lion of the match went to Archie for converting his chance on goal, playing in different positions and working tirelessly on the left wing both defensively and attacking.

Well done Archie! 🏆

Today we took part in the Robin Hood Colts tournament and as chaotic, fast paced and relentless a tournament can be I think we can all say that it was a kick away from perfect!

We played 6 games and in turn felt 6 different emotions from frustration, joy, pain, ecstasy, relief and pride. We may have come runners up to a penalty shootout but in the end we won the biggest battle of all, believing in ourselves and believing that anything can happen when we put in the hard work.

Be proud of what you achieved today lions because all of us watching on the side lines definitely are!

Todays lion of the tournament could have gone to any of the team but Jude commanded his box, stood strong and pulled off some fantastic saves when the team needed him the most. Absolutely incredible!

Well done Jude and well done Lions! 🏆

We have had a long standing agreement with the boys going back 3 or more years that the first player to score a header in a game will get a chocolate bar of their choice!

Jack and Darren originally set the challenge and after a lot of close calls…. We have had 2 headed goals in 4 games!

Firstly Dimi with an absolute bullet header a few weeks ago followed by Jacob with a glancing header on Tuesday!

Admittedly, Dimi’s chocolate bar did get bigger as we kept forgetting to buy it 🙈 well done boys! 🍫

The challenge still stands for this season and I think it might turn out to be an expensive one!

Good solid performance last night from the boys and great to get back to playing near the standard we know we are capable of!

We used the width of the pitch well, especially in the first half and put some great crosses in throughout the game. All the lads tried a variety of positions tonight and we also changed the team throughout the game with us having a lot of subs but the lads were great, every one of them rose to the challenge of playing in a different position as well plenty of substitutions. They really were a credit to the team.

Jude was awarded Lion of the Match! Jude played upfront, midfield and defensive at certain points in the game and played very well in every one of them. Constantly battling and some of the through balls he was playing were outstanding 👏🏼

Well done Jude!🏆

We love this! We are extremely lucky that we have great parents who have been nothing but supportive on our footballing journey so far 💙⚽️🦁

Absolutely ❤️❤️❤️❤️ THIS

Great night at the Kickstart Presentation!

All the lads were presented with their runner up trophies for finishing 2nd in the division 2 spring league.

Let’s see what this season brings for the lions!

Tuesday’s match was a tale of two halves.

First half started off slow, we conceded early and were guilty of letting our heads drop but manly failing at the basics of the game, which was disappointing as we all know how well this team can preform when we are on our A-game.

Second half was much better, the reset button was pressed and the players settled, used the ball well and battled harder in the middle to carve out our own chances. There is still room for improvement and lots of hard work to be done on the training pitch but there are more games to come in pre season and we are starting to see the team grow.

Win, lose or draw we are still lions! 🦁

Lion of the match was given to Jacob for his tireless role in the middle of the pack, defending and attacking and having a “never say die” attitude to the game!

Well done Jacob! 🏆

Another friendly completed for our pre-season preparation!

Not the result we wanted but on the whole it was a lot better performance by the whole team. We are still guilty of turning our backs on the ball and not closing down players to prevent goal scoring opportunities but the back line has improved, they were communicating well, holding the line and covering when needed. We tried some players out of position today and they took to the task really well.

Well done Will on scoring your first goal in Ashfield colours, converting a really well worked team goal which started from one end of the pitch to the other, using the ball well with fast moving passes and a charging run down the wing to put the ball into a dangerous area to be finished!

Todays Lion of the Match is Shippo, he’s really making the center back position his own!

Well done to Shippo! 🏆

📣 We’re still on the hunt for a couple of experienced players to join the Ashfield Athletic Under 11’s family. 📣

From the 13th of July we will be training on Thursday nights 8-9 at Sutton Lawn and from September we will be playing matches on Sunday Mornings in the Kickstart League.

We are currently playing in the Kickstart summer league on Tuesday nights (usually our training night) so we are training on the weekends.

Today was a day of firsts for Ashfield!

First of all we came across a familiar face as Keeno was lining up on todays opposition, secondly, today was Josh’s first game leading the team out as captain and finally we scored a header from a corner! Our first in Ashfield history and a bullet we wont forget.

We told the lads not to worry about the offside rule for today’s game and to concentrate on man marking, play with freedom and most of all the play the Ashfield way. In spells this worked well, carving out our own chances on goal, catching the opposition offside more times than we found our self at the other end. I think this shows it is slowly working its way into the team without them even realising.

Unfortunately we were guilty of slow starts to each half, ball watching and not closing down players fast enough to cut out a shooting chance but this is all about the new learning process we find ourselves in, moving into the 9v9 match’s.

Todays Lion Of The Match is Dimitri after connecting an unstoppable header and a special mention to H7 for a peach of a corner to make it possible!

Well done Dimi! 🏆

We go again lions and as a team we learn and overcome!

Yesterday we kicked off our summer league match’s against Market Warsop, a great team who usually play in the YEL league. It was also our first proper match playing the offside rule. It took most of the first half for the team to get to grips with the new rule and there was quite a lot of trial and error in getting it right.

Unfortunately we never quite got going and we didn’t get to show what we are capable of however, it was always going to be a massive learning curve and I’m delighted with the dedication from the lads in trying something new and not giving up.

We go again next week!

Hixxy picked up our Lion of the Match award yesterday, he never gave up, made some great challenges, really took to the offside rule very well and talked to his team mates throughout the game to talk them through it.

Well done Hixxy! 🏆

Kickstart Festival this morning!

Took the lads a while to get going but when they eventually woke up 😂 they hit their stride and played some great football.

We managed to make it to the semi finals and was narrowly beat by the eventual winners. The boys were obviously upset to miss out on getting to the final but could walk off the pitch with their heads held high.

As always it was great to see the boys playing some fantastic football. The teamwork and team spirit amongst the lads is brilliant.

Today was Keeno’s last match with us after being with us since we formed 4 years ago. It leaves a big Keeno size hole in the team but he is going on to play with some of his school friends and we wish him all the best for the future!

Next stop, Summer League starting in a few weeks time!

Great result tonight!

Our first game of 9 vs 9 on a big pitch and we played very well against a decent team. As the game went on we got more and more used to the offside rule, we keep telling the boys it takes some getting used to and it takes time but they’ll get there.

Also great to see us score from a corner! Which has been hard to come by in the last couple of seasons.

Dimi received player of the match tonight for his well taken goals, his battling hard-work and performance!

Very well done!

On to the Kickstart Festival on Sunday!

to all junior defenders 💙

‘On the field he stands strong and tall,
A junior defender giving his all,
His eyes locked onto the opposition,
Ready to make a crucial interception.

With every tackle and every slide,
He puts his body on the line with pride,
Defending his team with all his might,
And never giving up without a fight.

He knows his role, he knows his task,
To keep the opposing team at bay, to make them ask,
"Why can't we get past this young defender,
Who seems to always be one step ahead, so clever?"

His passion for the game shines bright,
His love for his team ignites,
And with each game he plays,
He grows stronger in so many ways.

So here's to the junior football defender,
A hero on the field, a true contender,
May he continue to defend with grace,
And always hold his team's defensive space’

We are looking to expand our Ashfield Athletic under 10’s family with experienced football players as we prepare for next season moving to 9 a side.

Aimed at kids aged current school year 5 going into year 6 in September.

What a way to finish off our competitive season!

We seem to be saying it each week and this week is no different, every single one of the boys worked their socks off today against a very good team.

We knew that if we won today we would secure 2nd place in the league. From the very first whistle all the boys were on their A game, we pressed them in every position all over the pitch and never really let them get going.

We rode our luck a couple of times in the first half though, a superb goal line clearance from Shippo and Josh made a point blank save from a bullet header. We did have chances of our own but similar to other games this season we just weren’t clinical enough in the front of goal.

The 2nd half began very similar to the 1st with both teams pressing for a goal. However we were composed all over the pitch and limited the oppositions chances. With around 10 minutes remaining Charles charged down the right and whipped a ball into the box, their defender had misjudged the flight of the ball and headed the ball into his own net to make it 1-0 to the lions. With the game seemingly going our way they pushed for an equaliser and with only a minute or so left they had a corner, they put the ball into the box and after a scramble in the box the ball looked like it might just creep over the goal line but an excellent clearance kept the score at 1-0 and we hung on for the win!

Once again, great team performance with every player giving everything!

It gets harder and harder each week to pick a player of the match but today we picked H7, he showed what great technical ability he has, his balls into the box from corners and free kicks were fantastic and we could have easily scored 2 or 3 from those alone. Kept his position really well and played his part in defending. Well done H7!!

📣 How we started 📣

As our page is relatively new we thought we would let you all know how Ashfield Athletic FC began.

We originally formed as Kixx Orange team competing in the Kickstart under 7’s league. The team was created from players that had been going to the football training programme known as Kixx and were now ready to play competitive football.

Once the under 7’s season had finished we felt that we were ready to form our own team and play our own brand of football - this was where Ashfield Athletic FC was created, we now have an under 9’s team and an under 10’s team and the rest, as they say is history!

To this day we still have 6 players from the original team from nearly 4 years ago. With some of our players going on to play Academy football with Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday and Mansfield Town.

Today showed what this football team is all about. It wasn’t the result we wanted but what a performance!

We knew going into this game that it was going to be tough only having 7 players available with no subs and we knew that we would need to at least get a draw or todays opposition would win the Spring League title.

Unfortunately after starting fairly slow against a very good team, we were punished by conceding an early goal. That seemed to bring the boys to life and they were battling all over the pitch. Jude playing in net for us for the first time this season pulled of some great saves to stop us going in further behind at the break. We had a couple of chances ourselves just before half time but overall we were happy at half time and felt that we were growing more and more in the game.

5 minutes into the second half, Archie, who had chased down everything all game caught a ball full force in the stomach. This caused Archie to pass out and have a small seizure. Massive thank you to everyone who was on the pitch so quickly to help Archie. It showed what grassroots football is all about as parents from other teams came to help. Archie came round and I’m delighted to say he’s fine!

The boys were visibly upset and it took a huge effort to play the last 20 minutes of the game with only 6 against 7, so what was a tough game became a lot tougher! We were already so proud of the team but to see how much effort they put in to keep themselves in the game and even have a few chances themselves is nothing short of amazing! Unfortunately we couldn’t quite do enough to get the draw but the teamwork the boys showed was incredible.

We opted to award the player of the match trophy to the whole team today, it didn’t seem right to single out an individual. However, special mention to Jude who was fantastic, he commanded his area and pulled off some vital saves.

Well done boys, you did yourselves, your parents and our club proud today!

🙌⚽️🦁🙌 great for those muddy Sunday mornings! 🙌⚽️🦁🙌

Next level life hack. 😂

Cleaning carrier, perfect for keeping the car clean after a match. 😂

What a game that turned out to be!

We told the boys before the game that they would have to put loads of effort in today and not let the opposition rest on the ball and thats exactly what they did.

We couldn’t have asked for much more from them in the first half, building a commanding lead with a commanding performance. We came off at half time having played some great football and everyone chipping in to limit the oppositions shots on goal. The first 10 minutes of the second half we continued as we had done in the first. But as we edged towards the final 15 minutes we were tiring and the opposition started to find their flow. A last minute penalty to the opposition made the score closer than it should have been, but the boys should be delighted with the win and the way they played.

Really well done to the team, we knew from the first minute the lads really wanted the win today!

Huge shout out to todays player of the match!
Hixxy had one of his best games of the season. We opted to go one at the back again today and Hixxy was comfortable throughout the game. Reading the game very well and making some outstanding challenges. Well done Hixxy! 🏆
