Let’s talk about physical activity in healthcare, a blog from Move Consulting - out now!

We talk a lot about the importance of physical activity in healthcare.
But how often does it genuinely show up in everyday conversations and practice, and how confident are ‘we’ when talking about the topic?

Based on recent evidence from Scotland, our latest blog explores the reality and what it takes to make physical activity a consistent, confident part of health and care interactions.

It touches on confidence, capability, and the role of clearer pathways in helping people access the right support at the right time. If you’re working across health, local government or physical activity, this may resonate.

We’re proud to be working with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board on an exciting new project exploring how physical activity can be better integrated into mental health pathways across North Wales.

Through evidence reviews, stakeholder conversations and our co-development workshops, we’ll be bringing organisations together to help shape practical recommendations linked to the existing iCan hubs across the region.

Elaine McNish, Director at Move Consulting, shared:
“Having helped develop the National Exercise Referral Scheme, I’ve seen how powerful physical activity can be in supporting people’s health. This project is a great opportunity to strengthen the role of movement in supporting mental health across North Wales.”

A big thanks to Principal Public Health Practitioner Hannah Lloyd for welcoming us to the project.

Give To Gain — progress doesn’t happen by accident.

Today is International Women’s Day, and this year’s theme Give To Gain highlights the importance of contributing knowledge, support and opportunity so that women and girls can thrive.

In the physical activity sector, that often means sharing learning and designing solutions that better support women to be active.

Through our work with , we helped develop learning resources to support instructors in engaging Muslim women in physical activity and creating culturally aware, welcoming environments.

We have also supported in shaping The Big Push, in previous years, helping the charity articulate its strategic focus in supporting women to move more throughout their childbearing years.

Work like this reminds us that progress happens when organisations take time to listen, learn and design with the people they aim to support.

Happy World Book Day 📕

Today, these two have stepped into the stories of W***y Wonka and Harry Potter and it got us thinking about the power of stories.

At , one of the things we do is help organisations shape new narratives around physical activity, to reach and engage audiences.

Just as stories like Harry Potter and W***y Wonka inspire children, the stories we create about movement help to inspire a more active nation.

How are you helping to tell a story about movement?

📢 New blog – It’s Nothing About Us, Without Us

How often do we talk about lived experience — but only focus on the barriers?

In our latest blog, Move Consulting Ltd Directors Craig and Elaine reflect on how lived experience is shaping physical activity, and why it’s just as important to recognise people’s existing strengths and capabilities.

Drawing on our work across the UK, the blog explores how listening to the whole story can help create more inclusive, realistic and person-centred physical activity systems.
