To Do nothing or Do something could be the difference between saving someone's life! So for me as a guide and coach it's important to refresh my first aid certificate. Testament to the about my wife / friends did something when i shattered my neck, how little or how much is irrelevant. My life would be on a different journey now 2mm from quadriplegic. This weekend i attended a course in La Molina with amazing like minded people that love the outdoors and the mountains, but have the desire to Do something if and when needed.

"The other side of fear" if a picture could portray what a client feels, mentally and emotionally tackling a new feature "the fear of the unknown" to some it looks nothing to others its like looking into the abyss, what if thoughts whirling around their mindset, butterflies in your tummy as the adrenaline coarses through your veins. For some it can be to much. As a coach you have to demonstrate the dynamics of the feature "step down transition drop" the 1 approach - 2 the feature - 3 the exit or run out, all three are important, along with body positioning, speed aproach and vision. This drop transition transfers the rider from a higher section of trail down to a lower section, with the landing gradient going away from the lip of the feature. Get the the approach speed right, nice neutral position over centre, relaxed in the arms, legs commit to the feature, speed+physics will generate a natural flight curve to landing. With tow in's and installing the principles and confidence and mitigating as much risk as possible, your client/s are the only ones that can execute the feature. Several tow inns to stop! several solo runs to stop! Mind games, what if.....?? More looking, solo runs and commit... As i mentioned about "3key elements" he executed 1 perfectly, 2 committed to the feature perfectly 3 he switched off being totally focused on the drop transition, off line skidding into the vegetation but all good. Always work with positivity when critique... One for another day as everyones learning curve on a bike is different "The other side of fear" tbc

Woburn trails pt1, as this chapter of lifes page is about turn with the move to 🇪🇦, how do you sum up nearly 40years of shredding, coaching and crafting sustainable trails in your local? We're fortunate enough to have such an amazing natural space on our doorstep and has been the catalysts thats forged so many life long friendships. A extreme sport, pastime, hobby call it what you like but its one of sports great levellers no matter what your status or background is "we are as one just loving shredding on your bike!" It comes with its fare share of user conflicts and battles with establishment hierarchy that's been this annoying itch (mountain bikers) that just won't go away! But the overwhelming memories will all be good ones spread over all those years, sessions with your besties, midweek and sunday shreds, thousands of hours crafting trails, roots, prequel to Jamies jamster tree ride, big dipper, crash-bang-wallop, dusty bottom, back passage, Hogans, Flightpath, sleazy mexican, social distance, brickshore, mr woods freeway, sabres of paradise and loaded legacy to name a few. Mates enduro racing and of course coaching, helping riders start their own mtb journeys and tweeking those alraady on theirs. It was great to see so many of those out this Sunday was an emotional day, shame a few couldn't join us. Here's to life's mtb next chapter, be nice to see you on the sunny side, until then thank you and stay awesome.
