Yesterday we were at the Apex Open in Manchester.

Two students. Two completely different fights.


Igor stepped onto the mats against someone taller, faster, and way more experienced.

The kind of opponent that makes you think twice.
But he didn’t back down.

He lost his match but walked off smiling. 🥉

Not the result he wanted but only his second time on the mats and it was great to see how much he enjoyed it.

Then there’s Danielle.
So much potential in her. So much ability.
Despite winning her fight 🥇, nerves and conditioning got the better of her this time.

Not frustration—just knowing she’s got another level she hasn’t unlocked yet.

That’s competing though.

You step outside your comfort zone.
You find out what you’re made of.
And often you find out what’s next to work on.

First sparring comp I’ve coached since 2019.
Felt good to be back. Reconnecting with other coaches. Watching my students grow & develop.

We’re proud.
We’re learning.
And we’re already looking onward to the next one in June.
