🥋 WHAT A WEEKEND FOR GB TOP TEAM JUDO CLUB! 🥋

What a busy and incredibly positive weekend it was for us as a club! 💙

Saturday saw us at the English Closed Championships, where both Max and Vanessa took on new challenges and represented GB Top Team brilliantly.

🥈 Max – Cadets Silver Medal (Max

For Max, this was his first time competing in the Cadet category, stepping up against more experienced Judoka.

He fought his way through to the final, where he found himself in an incredible 11-minute battle against a much more experienced opponent.

Max gave absolutely everything he had. He never stopped fighting, never gave up and showed the heart and determination that we know he has.

He may have come away with a silver medal, but there is so much to be proud of. 🥈👏

A well-deserved silver medal and a fantastic first step into the Cadets.

💪 Vanessa – 5th Place (

Vanessa also took on a new challenge, competing in a new weight category.

She fought hard and finished in a very respectable 5th place.

As always, Vanessa has already looked at her performance and knows exactly what she needs to work on before the next competition. That’s what development is all about — learning, improving and coming back stronger. 💪🥋

Then on Sunday, we were back out in the community at the Merton Sports Day. Along side Great Britain Top Team I MMA Gym I Fight Team and Sinéadh Ní Nualláin it was a day to remember.

It was fantastic to showcase our Judo on stage and spend the day meeting and engaging with local families, talking about what we do and showing people what GB Top Team is all about.

We’ve been proud to be part of Merton Sports Day since we opened, and it’s always a fantastic opportunity to bring Judo into the community. ❤️

From competition mats to the community stage, it was a busy but brilliant weekend for our club.

We’re incredibly proud of Max, Vanessa and everyone involved in making the weekend such a success.

The future is looking very exciting for GB Top Team Judo Club… and we’re only just getting started! 🔥🥋

🥋 GBTT AT MERTON SPORTS DAY! 🥋

We’ve been part of Merton Sports Day since we opened our doors, and every year we’ve had an absolutely fantastic time! 🙌 Merton Council have been amazing supporting our judoka at Recent competitions, and players will be bringing medals along too.

This year we’re back at Cannon’s Recreation Ground on Sunday 6th September, 11am–4pm — and we want as many of our Judo players as possible to come along, get involved and represent GBTT! 💪🥋

We’ll also be showcasing Judo on the main stage from 1:15–1:45pm! 🔥

Let’s get as many of the GBTT family there as possible and show Merton what we’re all about!

These extended sessions are designed to develop the technical side of judo, with detailed instruction, skill progression, and problem-solving on the mat. We also include Randori to put your techniques into practice.

also there’s a few photos from the day too but as a club we couldn’t be more proud of how far you’ve come since starting with us just over 2 years ago.

Where do we even start with today… 😂🥋

The original plan? Just take a mum and her two sons along to experience their first Junior, Senior & Veterans Kent Open.

Simple… or so we thought! 🤣

Harrison (14) stepped up into the Junior and Senior events. He put in some fantastic performances all day, with plenty of people asking, “You’re only 14?!” Safe to say he certainly didn’t look out of place!

Mason gave absolutely everything in both sections too. Considering he’s only been doing judo for four months, he nearly caught out a much higher graded opponent, leaving people convinced he’d been training for years.

Then there’s Steph… good as Mum!

After spending the last year watching the boys train and compete, she’d only managed four or five judo lessons herself before deciding, “Why not?” She stepped onto the mat against two very experienced 2nd Dan black belts. She showed incredible heart, never stopped fighting, and walked away with a brilliant bronze medal. We couldn’t have been prouder.

But… the day wasn’t over! 😅

With everyone else having had their turn, the coach’s family, partner, parents and even the players all started chanting the same thing…

“Coach, get on the mat!”

Eventually, after enough persuasion, he gave in! 😂

Competing in the Open Weight category and giving away over 20kg in most of his contests, he battled his way all the way to the final before coming away with a well-earned silver medal. Not a bad way to end the day!

Days like today remind us what our club is all about. It’s not just medals—it’s families supporting each other, stepping outside comfort zones, finding courage, having a laugh, and making memories together.

A huge well done to everyone who competed. We’re incredibly proud of every single one of you. 💙🥋
