🔴⚫ A TOUGH DAY FOR THE GIRLS
After a really strong spell of performances, today was a difficult result to take as the girls went down 3–0 against a strong and impressive Stirling side.
Having played out a close and competitive game against Stirling previously, we knew exactly what we were up against. Unfortunately, from kick-off we never really found our rhythm. We lacked some of the fight, energy and drive that we know this team is capable of, especially from the performance last week.
An injury to one of our players early on in the match disrupted our shape and composure, and Stirling took advantage, breaking forward to take the lead.
The girls continued to push and tried to break down a well-organised Stirling side, who defended the pressure well. We had opportunities to get ourselves level, but the Stirling goalkeeper produced some excellent saves to keep us out.
Changes were made at half-time in an attempt to change the game, but this unsettled us and Stirling soon extended their lead with a shot from outside the box, followed by a mistake at the back.
To the girls credit, they continued to try and attack. We came close with an effort off the bar and again forced some excellent saves from the Stirling keeper, but it simply wasn't our day. As the game became scrappy, Stirling added a third.
With around 20 minutes remaining, we needed to show more belief, determination and fight to try and get ourselves back into the game. That's something the coaches will reflect on and work on with the girls. Going behind is part of football — how we respond to adversity is what matters.
Despite today's disappointment, this group has shown plenty of quality and character throughout the season, and one difficult afternoon doesn't change that.
👏 Players of the Match:
⭐ #14 Smith
⭐ #6 Hayes
A special mention to Gallagher and Cassells, who both required hospital treatment today. We wish you both a speedy recovery and hope to see you back with the team soon. ❤️🖤
The coaches will take time to reflect on today's performance, learn from it and make sure we're ready to come back stronger for our next league game.
Heads up, girls. Learn from it. Reset. Come back stronger. 💪🔴⚫
