⚽️SUNDAY FOOTBALL ⚽️
Today the girls travelled to Clyde Valley High School on a cold but sunny day to take on Wishaw Wycombe in a friendly — and what a game of football it was! 🔥
We knew this would be a real test for the girls, coming up against a Tier 1 side with more experience at this level. It was also a fantastic opportunity to see just how far our girls have developed as a team and they absolutely did not disappoint!
From the first whistle to the last, our girls were ready to fight. Up against a strong, experienced and physical side, they never backed down and never stopped believing in themselves. They played the football they know they are capable of, putting together some fantastic passages of play, making brilliant runs, creating attacking threats, putting in strong tackles and producing some amazing saves.
This was a fast-paced, action-packed game between two teams who were determined to win. For large periods, the sides were evenly matched, with end-to-end football and chances at both ends. Both teams pushed forward, defended brilliantly and tested the keepers, who both made some fantastic saves throughout the game.
Porsche got Holytown off to a great start, opening the scoring after just a few minutes, before Wishaw Wycombe found an equaliser around 10 minutes later. We went into half-time level, but the girls came back out for the second half ready to give it everything.
And what a response!
The girls came out fighting, continued to work hard for each other and produced another three well-worked goals to secure a fantastic and thoroughly deserved victory!
But this performance was about so much more than the result.
The girls were brilliant all over the pitch, with every single player playing their part. They worked tirelessly for each other, showed strength, resilience and determination and continued to play their football against a very strong opposition.
This is what happens when hard work, belief and teamwork come together. ❤️🖤
To compete at this level, against a Tier 1 side and produce a performance like that is a real testament to how far these girls have come. The development, confidence and togetherness within this team are fantastic to see and every single one of them should be incredibly proud of what they achieved today.
Huge credit to Wishaw Wycombe for a brilliant, competitive game of football. Both teams gave it everything and games like this are fantastic for the development of girls’ football.
But today, we celebrate our girls! ❤️🖤
The hard work continues, the belief keeps growing, and this team is showing exactly what they are capable of.
Four goals. A fantastic team performance. A huge result and so much to be proud of! 🔥
