Today is so we're thanking all professional seafarers, all those men and women who work at sea, wherever they may be on the world’s oceans.
Thanks for everything you have done in the past and everything you do today for us as an Island Nation.
Today we are celebrating the 104th birthday of Eric Woodsford. Eric is our eldest ex Sea Scout. He was with the Group from 1927 to 1939. He joined the police force in May 1939, but then joined the Royal Navy at the outbreak of WW2. He served on artic convoy duty, escorting merchant ships to Russia during the war. On demob he returned to the police force.
He is seen in 2010 naming our Bursledon Gig “Sir Harry” at the JST Pumpkin Festival at RVCP. In the black and white photo taken at Netley Castle boat house in the 1930s with the Admiralty Gig - Rover.

Petition: Allow furloughed charity employees to volunteer for their charity Charity services are needed now more than ever. Charities placing employees in temporary 'furlough' to obtain urgent financial relief cannot allow employees to continue any work on a voluntary basis. This will impact the ability of charities to serve the public in a time of national crisis.

Emergency Appeal At a meeting on June 27th 2019, the Trustees resolved that we need to launch an emergency rescue fundraising effort to address our very serious financial challenges and to provide the working capital now needed to continue our activities.
This is the ancestral home of our sponsor, Sir Harry Crichton (1844-1922) Sir Harry was the son of John Crichton 3rd Earl of Erne. Sir Harry lived at Netley Castle and was a friend of Lord Baden-Powell. He was also the first County Scout Commissioner of Hampshire. Sir Harry was also related to Admiral Lord Charles Beresford, the first Chief Sea Scout. Sir Harry’s mother was Selina Beresford
Dear Parent
As we start the spring bank holiday weekend with more opportunities for your children to participate in Scouting activities, I wonder if you could please give the following some thought.
We are very lucky to have very committed adult volunteers in the sections that organise and deliver creative and exciting programmes for young people. The programmes are full of fun and adventure but alongside that develop them in learning important skills for life at a time when local authorities have reduced their spending and investment into young people, our future.
Our adult volunteers are silent heroes in what they do, without no pay or seeking recognition they put everything into ensuring that your young people have the very best Scouting experience during their time with us. This is occasionally at the sacrifice of spending time with their own families but yet they continue to volunteer. Amazing.
Despite the huge effort our adults put into Scouting, we do need more help so we can improve further the quality of our programmes and spread the workload. Volunteering is hugely rewarding as well as being fun and having the opportunity to learn some new skills which you can benefit from. It doesn’t matter how much time you have to spare or how experienced you are, any time would be appreciated as there is always a range of different tasks that we need help with. We also have free training available if you want to develop further your Scouting leadership skills.
Why not give Scouting a try and take the Four Week Challenge! Have a look at the poster and please give it some thought about joining the team!
Yours in Scouting
Mark Langdown
