Our Second XV are playing at 2pm against Hartlepool Rovers, England are playing Fiji at 3.15pm then we’ve got live music with Bicker from 5.30pm.

Come along and support the lads and stay for a few ales whilst listening to Bicker, what a day.

Tonight we headed over to Killingworth to join a training session with Tír na nÓg Gaelic Football Team.

The Red Kites thoroughly enjoyed their evening and would encourage anyone who wants to give Gaelic Football a try to get in touch with Newcastle upon Tyne GAA who train Mondays and Wednesdays at Killingworth Young People's Club.

Yesterday we hosted Tír na nÓg, Newcastle Gaelic Football team at Blaydon RFC for a very wet training session! We absolutely loved having you's train with us and we can't wait to try Gaelic Football!!!

Yesterday we traveled down the road to Stockton Rugby Club to participate in the Durham County Summer 10s competition.

We played every team once (see results below), and finished the day by competing for the Plate (3rd/4th) place.

Thank you to Durham County RFU Women and Girls, the Referees, Stockton Rugby Club, all the volunteers and organisers for making it a really enjoyable day!

Congratulations to Horden & Peterlee Valkyries for winning the competition beating Stockton in the final!

Last night the Red Kites headed over to Infinity fitness gym and sports medicine clinic to build on their pre season training.

We were split into two groups, the first group done some plyometrics with Charmaine Ho, which is useful in rugby for change of direction and sprint work.

The other group completed a strength circuit with Jeff utilising all the muscle groups - again, very useful for rugby!

Thank you to Charmaine and Jeff and if you're local, check their gym out, it's on Lead Rd Greenside, Ryton.

Head Coach Christopher Morton said:

"I'm delighted that 1XV coach Paul Ellwood and 2XV Shaun Murphy have committed again for the 23/24 season. Despite losing backs coach Adam Houston (position available) to Newcastle Thunder and England universities, Blaydon boast a talented coaching set up with all 3 coaches being RFU qualified. Paul and Shaun are not only skilled but loved by the players, so I am delighted they have stayed.

This season should see both sides competing at the top end of their respective leagues with the target being promotion. Blaydon offers a chance for experienced or new players, young or old to flourish. Come and give it a try and you won't be disappointed!"

SECOND TEAM CAPTAINS

So good they came back for another season with an unchanged line up.

Captain - Rachael Hope, ever popular, leader and Players Player two years in a row, Hopey is back to lead the team through another campaign.

Vice Captain - Chloe Bell, hard as nails, she's back to lead the backs!

Vice Captain - Michaela Bousfield, she's back after suffering a shoulder injury in the 2021/22 season, but she's back and ready to take on the new season.

FIRST TEAM CAPTAINS 2023/24

Firstly we'd like to say a massive big thank you to Jolene for stepping up to the captaincy role for the entirety of last season!!

Captain - Rachel Graham-Best returns to the captaincy after an injury that ruled her out of the entire 2022/23 campaign.

Vice Captain - Jolene Ellwood, stepped up to the plate last season, role model and queen of the jackling.

Vice Captain - KP, another returnee at VC, experienced, huge points scorer, players player of the year 2022/23.

And finally, we'd like to say another big thank you to Emily Bowman, last season she stepped into the VC role with ease. We can't wait to have you back on the pitch!
