Commando Strength

Great local competition taking place in December at lynx fitness Brandon. I've got the pleasure of being the Head referee for this one which I'm extremely excited about. As always the competitions which Lynx run are always for local charities too.

For those who were with me at the weekend you know exactly were I am and why. For those who weren't well I'm currently In Manchester Royal Hospital.

Unfortunately on my second deadlift lift at 335 both my quadriceps tendons ruptured which attach to the lower leg (in simple terms) of which I piled in.

Just been confirmed by the surgeon of which surgery on both knees will be tomorrow unless a drastic case comes inn.

I cannot tell you how devastated I am but it's happened now and I've got to deal with what coming and in front of me.

Instead of competing I decided to put on a local strongman competition and teamed up with my local gym in Brandon(Suffolk). Planning started way back in March for this and god I'm so glad we did start then. It's not an easy thing to tackle and there's so much prep involved from the start. From picking the events/weights to male/female classes, having all the kit for the competition and also having warm up kit too. The scoring and admin side is a massive part of it, safety/catering/medical also need to be thought about. I drafted in .81 and we managed to get all bases covered. I wanted to make it a great competition with great events so people would talk about it and think “I want to come back!”.

It was never about making money from it but making sure every single person competing or spectating thought wow! I wanted great tshirts and great trophies too. I also drafted in two of my very good friends and incredible strength athletes as referees . If I'm honest, it was ran at a loss but it brought people from all over the UK to our gym and the community together and I'm confident we didn't disappoint them either!

Overall, we had about 20 members helping on the day to make it run smoothly and slick. From refs/plate loaders/spotters/admin crew sorting the scoring/scoreboard out. To the catering and gym staff, every single person was needed to pull it off and I can't thank them enough.

Was it worth doing - absolutely! Well done to all who competed. They seriously had there work cut out!

Well the trophies have arrived for the first lynx fitness /commando strength strongman Competition 7th August. These are probably the best ones I have ever seen ! Who has the minerals/determination to take one of these home !!

Very good friend of mine will be the guest referee. It's a no brainer ! Get signed up!

Something different today for the strongman crew down at lynx fitness Brandon. Threw a 1 rep max deadlift at Them today. All 10 of them performed incredibly well and pretty much every single one of them improved on there current PBs. Great crowd and very proud of every single one of them.

"Yes I competed at the euros with Darren and about 5 weeks before I competed against Dave Morris at the Brits.
I only knew Dave a short time but seeing the effect he had on the powerlifting community I thought I'd like to assist in someway.
I just set up a business- coast to coast classic automotive which imports classic American cars to the uk, me and my friend John macdonald bought some bars and put them in the back of the car I brought over.
We think it's the right thing to do by donating one and all the money raised goes to the family. Wish I could do more"
