The Peter O’Sullevan Arena for the Welfare of the Horse is a 70 x 35m outdoor arena in the grounds of the National Horse Racing Museum, Newmarket. The surface is Andrews Bowen GB mix, an all-weather, wax coated surface suitable for any arena discipline. The Peter O’Sullevan Arena can be hired out for lessons, clinics or for general hire throughout the year at a cost of £20 per hour for flatwork, £30 per hour with jumps. We are very lucky to be associated with the Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust, who generously funded this first class equine facility in the heart of Newmarket. Sir Peter O’Sullevan CBE, who died in July 2015 at the age of 97, was much more than a fabled racing commentator. He was a journalist of high repute, a connoisseur of sporting art, and a racehorse owner who won big races with Attivo (including the 1974 Triumph Hurdle) and the great sprinter Be Friendly. Throughout his life he remained committed to the cause not only of equine welfare, but of animal welfare in general. On his retirement from commentating in 1997 he founded the Peter O’Sullevan Charitable Trust, which to date has raised more than £4 million in support of various charitable enterprises. The support of his trust for this arena is the perfect way to perpetuate his name in Newmarket – the Home of Horseracing.

At the The Peter O'Sullevan Arena Newmarket we welcome horses in all shapes and sizes. Gemma Bramwell loved getting to watch your dressage lesson with Melody this morning in the arena.

We're looking forward to hosting the Newmarket RoR Show over the Henry Cecil Open Weekend this year on 19th September!

✨ Newmarket RoR Show update✨

I am working with NHRM at the moment to make sure everything is in place for the show, the arena will be harrowed and it'll be flat and level.
Plus we'll have the small tannoy system again to read out the notes you submit about your horses so that all those attending will know a little about your horse (look out for the email asking for those!) while you do your show!

The order is in with the rosette maker 🏅 so that every competitor will get a beautiful rosette in the colours of the sponsor. And I am getting a list together of prizes that the sponsors generosity funds so that again each competitor goes home with a little something in a goody bag!🏆

And finally I have booked the NARS Photograph of the Year winner as the photographer for the day so hopefully all of you go home with a photo or two to remember your day! 📸

Lot's going on behind the scenes and I cannot wait to welcome you all on Saturday 19th September at The Peter O'Sullevan Arena Newmarket at NHRM!
