Mike Cornish first played for Newquay back in 1956, aged just 15.
Recently, he came back up to Mount Wise, now 85, with his daughter alongside him, to stand on the ground where it all started and look through the history photographs on the stand.
His debut was away at Tavistock. He still remembers the weather, freezing cold and pouring with rain, bad enough that the lads ended up changing their shirts at the break. It was Mike Stern who passed him a little something to see him through the second half. A drop of whisky.
Seventy years on, the same ground is still here, and so is Mike. We loved having him back, and we hope a few more memories came flooding back along with the photos.
Thanks for coming up to see us, Mike. You're always welcome at Mount Wise. And if anyone else fancies a look around the ground or wants to share their own memories of the club, get in touch at [email protected].

Pre-season is back, and this lot can't wait!
There's a reason players want to be at Newquay. You put the work in, then the beach is right there when you're done, and a new season at the highest level in our 136 years is waiting at the end of it.
Over the next few weeks we'll take you through the build-up, from the gym to the grass. This is where it starts.

Wayne Roberts started out in Newquay, and now he's back where it began.
He joins as our new goalkeeper coach, the latest addition to Middsy's backroom team. He came up through the club's youth ranks before moving into coaching once his playing career finished. Since then he's worked right across Cornish football, with spells at Newquay, Wadebridge and Falmouth Town, and time in the Plymouth Elite Hub. He also holds the goalkeeper coach role with Kernow FA, so he arrives at Mount Wise with proper county-level experience behind him.
Good to have you home, Wayne!

Most clubs at our level don't have a player welfare programme. We do, and it exists because one volunteer decided it should. The full story is here https://www.newquayafc.com/community-stories/emma-wright-player-welfare/
Emma Wright started out in the canteen on a Saturday, making teas and Bovrils and getting to know the supporters. When the partnership with WAX started, she went looking for something else to do at the club, and Tom asked her whether she would take on safeguarding. She said yes, and from there she built a player welfare programme that now runs across our senior teams, looking after both physical and mental wellbeing, with mental health training brought in from outside the club.
None of that is what you would expect from a non-league side. It happened because someone with the right outlook put her hand up and got stuck in.
That is what this is about. There is real work going on at this club that you would normally only find somewhere much bigger, and a lot of it is done by people who never imagined they could until they started. If you care about people and want to help look after them, there is a place for you here.

July pre-season is now complete. Five first-team home friendlies at Mount Wise to get us ready for the new campaign, and the last one is locked in with Barnstaple making the trip down on Saturday 18 July. Also, the Avonmouth FC kick-off has been moved to 12pm.
These five are just the start. A 2026/27 season ticket gets you into every home game at Mount Wise, across every team and every competition. First team, Reserves, Thirds, Ladies and Veterans. League, cup and friendlies all included on one ticket.
Adults £150, concessions £100, under-12s free. That works out at less than the price of a medium pasty from Barnecutts (other pasty shops are available) per game once you add it all up.
Get yours at newquayafc.com- The season ticket, not the pasty, but if you get the ticket you can get into the ground where we do sell pretty good pasties too...

We sat down with new signing Jacob Kevern to get to know him a bit better.
On the kind of player he is: "I'd like to think I'm a ball-carrying centre half. I like stepping into space, keeping possession, and hitting the long ball when it's needed."
On how it started: "I got into football through my dad, playing in the front room before joining a youth team."
On what drew him to the Mints: "This is a club that drives for promotion and really wants to push up the leagues, and that's something I want to be part of."
On what supporters can expect: "I'm an all-round defender, right back or centre back. I can drive in with the ball and create attacks, but I'll defend relentlessly too. Off the pitch I'm just a kind, humble lad you can have a chat with."
And a word for the fans: "Hopefully I can put on a good performance in my first game."

Newquay AFC are delighted to complete the signing of defender, Jacob Kevern!
He spent last season standing out at Step 4. Now he's bringing that to the Mints.
Jacob Kevern joins us from Mousehole AFC and adds real strength to the back line ahead of the new campaign.
Manager, Shaun Middleton said: “He’s a really talented young and versatile defender who is comfortable playing out from the back and is strong defensively. He has an excellent work ethic and is a player we’ve been monitoring for some time. He fits the profile of the club perfectly, and his ambitions align with ours. Having already played at a higher level, he brings valuable experience and has all the attributes to be a great addition to the squad.”
Director of Football Jason Waterman said: "Jacob is someone who caught our eye consistently last season, standing out in a Mousehole side competing at Step 4, which is exactly the level of pedigree we want to be bringing into this squad. He's a player who combines real physicality and athleticism with the ability to play, and that profile is increasingly hard to find at this level. We've tracked him closely and we're genuinely pleased to get this one over the line. We had a strong defensive unit last season and Jacob adds to that considerably as we look to push on this year."
Welcome to Newquay AFC, Jacob. 🙌

What a season for our Ladies!
Promotion is confirmed. The Ladies are going up to the South West Regional Women's Football League for 2026/27, two promotions in two seasons.
They've also lifted the Mason King Cup for a second year running, and next season they'll be in the FA Cup for the first time. A brilliant reward for everyone who has put the work in.
There's more good news. Open training sessions are coming up on 10 June, 24 June and 1 July. If you are looking to be part of a club investing in the Women's game and committed to success, come along and be part of it. Details to follow.
They'll be playing their home games at Mount Wise again next season, and here's the best bit. A 2026/27 season ticket covers the Ladies' home games at Mount Wise too, so it's one ticket for more football across the club. Grab yours over on the website newquayafc.com

Those July friendlies? A season ticket gets you all five, plus everything that follows right through to May. And there's still a reason to be quick about it.
There are a limited number of free World Cup Fanzone tickets left, plus 15% off Beryl Bikes for early sign-ups. Both are going while stocks last, so worth getting in now.
A full season at Mount Wise. Any team, any competition, all season. If they're playing at home, you're in.
Adults £150. Concessions £100. Under 12s free. Membership £15. Work that across a full season of fixtures and a day out comes in cheaper than a coffee, and not one of those posh coffees either.
Sort yours now at newquayafc.com.
