Newquay Raider vs Porthleven.
The team line up was called rock, paper, scissors and it was just that; Sophie Harley started in goal as my rock defence with Willow, Evie and Ruby. In midfield were my paper, led by captain Orla, with Niamh, Bella K & Freya, and my scissor Lowena. Ella C and Annabelle started on the bench. The game started well with some early opportunities by the Raiders with our attacking play paying off as Bella K slotted home the first goal on the nine minute mark! The girls kept their cool and played well moving the ball out wide and chasing down the ball if we didnโt have possession. Evie was brilliant in defence, working well with Willow and Ruby clearing the ball when necessary or even occasionally springing an offside trap. Orla played brilliantly assisting the defence helping bring the ball back to an attacking play. I can already see such an improvement in how the girls are playing and learning to read the game. The first half finished 1-0 to Newquay Raiders. We changed it up a little with Sophie coming out of goal for the second half and Willow stepping in. There were some great link up play and some missed chances early into the second half before Porthleven managed to break through and score. The girls kept their heads up and regrouped, they kept the play wide with some great through balls but couldnโt break the deadlock as we fast approached the final few minutes with Porthleven attacking hard. A great tackle from Evie who played the ball through to Orla who played a millimetre perfect through ball to Bella K, and boom she found the back of the net 2-1 Newquay Raiders. Porthleven tried to press for a draw but the girls knew they had to pull together for the final few minute and they did, the whistle blew and a win for the raiders . Lowenna was voted MVP by Porthleven and myself for playing the way she did, she ran and ran some more and if she lost the ball she ran some more! All the girls played a big part in todayโs game, a big shout out to Dan and Rob for taking it in turn to run the line, Amy, Wilson and Nic for everything you do for the Raiders and not forgetting the parents for the time they spend making sure theyโre at training and matches
Full time score
Newquay 2
Porthleven 1
Have a safe trip down to porthleven everyone for our first away game of the season! Letโs go Raiders

Some people tell me Iโm wasting time and money on Ruanโs extracurricular activity โ ๐
๐จ๐จ๐ญ๐๐๐ฅ๐ฅ & ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ญ๐ก๐ฅ๐จ๐ง.
They look at the daily expenses โ from transportation to training, the gear, the bike, the race / tournament registration fees โ and they think itโs too much for something "๐๐ฑ๐ญ๐ซ๐".
But hereโs what most donโt understand:

They say Ruan must be exhausted โ school in the morning, tutor and training in the afternoon, five days a week.
But to be honest?

He started football at just 2 years old.
By 4, he was already doing triathlon.
Some may say weโre just forcing Ruan to join Triathlon/ Football because it was our childhood dream, that we just want him to pursue what we couldnโt.
But if you know him you would know that He was the one who really wanted it.
Weโve seen how committed he is, how focused heโs become.
Heโs learning to be disciplined, respectful, and responsible โ all at such a young age.
Thatโs why Iโd rather raise him in an environment that teaches structure, teamwork, and humility,
than one where anything goes as long as youโre entertained.
I want him to be around kids who share the same values โ
young athletes who push each other to become better, not just in sports, but in life.
And yes, I choose this path for him

Itโs about learning how to lose with grace,
How to respect your coaches and opponents,
How to bounce back when things donโt go your way.

These are things that will stay with him forever โ long after the finish line or the final whistle blows.
So yes, it costs time, energy, and money.
