What a fantastic Saturday for Sedgefields U16 team at the U16 Northern League at Manchester! Outstanding teamwork from everyone saw us secure brilliant wins over Huddersfield, Sheffield, Morley, and Grantham, with our only defeat coming against Rotherham.
As both teams finished with just one loss, the silver medal to Sedgefield was decided on the head-to-head result.
An incredible effort from every single player—proud of the commitment, determination, and team spirit shown throughout the day.
A well-deserved silver medal and plenty to celebrate! Well done to all our players 😍

What a weekend for our 4 Sedgefield girls and their NORTH EAST teammates. Every Sedgefield girl scored. 😍
5 games played, 3 games won and 2 lost. Our final winning game going to nerve wracking penalties against London!
This secured 5th position overall for the girls. This is an amazing achievement.

Ben Alderson (Sedgefield Water Polo Club) has been named Northumberland and Durham Athlete of the Year for 2024.

Ben enjoyed a breakthrough year in 2024, building on his role with the SWPC Senior Men’s team and Durham University’s 1st team. He progressed through the GB pathway, starting with the U19 European Qualifiers (where he was Vice-Captain), earning England Senior selection, and ultimately representing GB at the World Cup Qualifiers — contributing two goals in a historic win.

At club level, Ben played a key role in SWPC’s promotion to BWPL Division 2, finishing the season with 22 goals, and later helped the team push for Division 1 promotion. He also captained Durham University to an unbeaten BUCS title-winning season.

Alongside his playing success, Ben has given back to the club by coaching junior teams, supporting their development and success across competitions.
