Today we played away to Blyth Spartans in our 2nd game since the end of November. We knew it would be a hard game but we dominated from the start. We got an early goal that came from a lovely through ball to Finley, and he slotted it passed the keeper with the outside of the foot into bottom corner. Shields were playing some lovely football and weren't being asked many questions at all. Nice little run by Riley and he let off a rocket that sailed past the keeper from 25 yards out, take a bow son.

Half time and we were comfortable so second half was the same tbh but Blyth scored a good goal to bring it back to 1-2. Blyth had a player sent to the sin bin and seconds before the 5 minutes were up Riley smashed another shot past the keeper to make it 1-3. Shields were cruising along and the Blyth gaffer asked the ref how long was left and he responded 10 mins. We were looking at a great 3 points but then the craziest 10 minutes of football we have witnessed happened. 1 on 1 chance was scored by Blyth. Kick off happened and from the kick off the ball was sent into the net by Josh M from a back pass that went wrong. and then 5 mins left one of our players was sent into the sin bin so he was off for the rest of the game. And Blyth struck again when the ball bobbled past keeper and Jake couldn't get to it before it crossed the line.

For 60 minutes of the game we were in total control despite it being our 2nd game this year. We threw the last 10 mins away but that happens in football, that's why we love the game unfortunately we were on the wrong end of it today. We can only move on and forget and put it right in the next game we have next week. We are still sitting in a strong position in the league and its up to us to keep us there. Well done to Josh M who received the POTM from Blyth.

Remember its happened and its gone, finished and we move on

1st game of 2026 we welcomed Morpeth Town. After a early pitch inspection by the gaffer, made a decision and sent out a message of "GAME ON". Something we haven't seen for quite some time.
We weren't sure how this game would go due to the fact we haven't played for so long, so we were hoping for everyone to be well up for today's game. Missing a couple of player's but still had 3 subs to keep the players fresh with frequent rest periods.

1st half kicked off and all we were facing was the tactic of long balls 95% of the time and it paid of quite quick with Morpeth taking a lead with a long distance shot that flew in past wor jakey. Shields were showing signs of playing some great football once we gained control and got the ball on the ground, but we couldn't manage to get a goal but we did come close with Seamus hitting the bar and post, John with a shot from half way smashing the bar and a powerful strike from Fin that the keeper saved. We could see that we were very rusty but we needed to try and push on.

2nd half Oliver did a great little lofted pass into the box and for some strange reason Morpeth's defender decided to jump and handle the ball for no particular reason, very strange. Pen was given and up stepped little Josh (hasn't got the best pen record going even in training lol) slotted it calmly past the keeper to make it 1-1.
Shields started to push on and started playing the passing game and we were getting the better of the other team. Out of nowhere Noah Brown produced an unreal shot that sailed past the keeper with great accuracy from yes you guessed it on the goal line lol, it stemmed from a shot from Fin that went passed the keeper but there was a defender going towards it so Noah saw his chance and smashed home the winning goal for Shields. When he came off he was very apologetic for pinching the goal but he did the right thing and saved me a few quid also lol. We won 2-1 and earned the 3 points.

Very rusty but still seen the game through and won. Lots to work on so hopefully we will produce a much smoother performance next week. We started the year with a win Shields Red's u14's undefeated in 2026 lol. Everyone played a part today but Riley got the POTM, well done.
