Happy New Year ! And hope everyone had a great Christmas

Before the Christmas break we had the long trip over to Naseby, a win would secure us top spot.

We took the early lead through Jamie following a knock down off a throw in. We dominated early on. Dave was very harshly sin binned as he asked the ref a question, Wh**ey was then rightly sin binned seconds later. Down to 9 men in which Naseby grabbed themselves a goal. Dave returned on the pitch, and a through ball from Andrews sent him on his way, he’s shot from 30 yards but no one in the fog could see if it had gone in . It did 1-2 HT.

Naseby battled on , they got themselves a corner in which we knew they would be good, and we are poor at, and then got themselves a goal.

By now the pitch was ruined, and not a lot of football could be played , we had a freekick which Deeks has whipped in near post for Grant to flick it in between his legs to take our lead back. Naseby equalised again after a 30 yard shot just went over our Stand in Keepers hand.

FT 3-3 , on a different day (and different ref) it’s probably a win. But Naseby are a decent set up and good bunch of lads who welcomed us back to the pub after. 🤝

MOTM was he’s been excellent since he’s been playing RB and he continued that form in this game.

Back to league action after sitting top of our MT group.

We travel away to Naseby and the boys want to end the year on a high!

Last 16 of the Nene Cup and we faced up against KA.

It probably wasn’t the best idea to have our Christmas do the night before but nonetheless we started much the brighter side. Andrews up front causing all sorts of issues! Hurley came close from a corner then 2 minutes later Andrews scored from one ! We continued to apply the pressure, Dave got in behind and squared to Ali who couldn’t convert, Billy had 2 free kicks just wide. It was a pretty comfortable half baring a long KA throw in which was just about cleared but we massively regret not going 2/3 goals clear. HT 0-1

Second half and KA came out flying , were stronger into tackles and got on the ball more. Against the run of play Andrews intercepted a back pass, squared to Ali who’s shot is going top corner , only for the KA cb to clear with a flying header , was an unbelievable stop. They realised their only joy was from Throw ins , and it worked for them, 2 goals off the back of throw ins where we have failed yet again to clear second balls. We attempted to get an equaliser , Jack A had a shot which was yet again cleared off the line with a header, but whilst we pushed men forward they countered and grabbed a 3rd .

We did grab one goal back through Rhys following a Stratz corner. We seem to be good at attacking set pieces but defensively we have to improve.

Credit to KA , they played the pitch and the conditions better than us in the second half and managed to get the win! So good luck to them in the next round !

MOTM was .rryaa back being a menace for the opposing defenders , and grabbed himself the opener.

Our final game of the year is back in the MT where we look to finish top of our group !

With only 12 lads, and our Top Scorer this season in goal, we knew it was going to be a tough game against Prem Side Kingsthorpe Athletic

A very 50/50 start to the game with both teams having a couple of half chances, midway through the first half their striker gets slotted through and Billy with a massive save to keep us level. We fail to clear the ball from a corner and find ourselves 1-0 down. HT 0-1

Second half kicks off and within 5 minutes their quick winger who we just spoke about gets slotted through, in all fairness if you’re skinning jack, you’re skinning most people. The winger then whips a ball across the box which was spilled and put away , 2-0 down. We stayed positive and didn’t let heads drop like we usually would which was great to see! Within a few minutes of going 2-0 down we pull one back through Ali, a great pass from Rhys and an even better first touch and little shimmy from Ali who then slots the ball past the keeper 2-1. On comes Jamie for Kempy.

We then continue to apply pressure and really control the game, a slight formation change and a reshuffle we go narrow. Within a few minutes a cross is played in long and high and Jamie’s at the back post to head it back across the box, it hits Hurleys and the ball falls back to Jamie who finishes well, 2-2 game on!

A lovely bit of play from midfield to attack finds Ali playing the ball to Jaime who then plays Andrews through, another quality finish finds Andrews slotting the ball past the keeper. 3-2!

The last 5 minutes was all them, a handball shout was waved away but the boys dug deep and saw the game out! A massive win which takes us top of the group!

Honourable mentions to Jamie who changed the game when he come on, and Andrew’s who caused issues for their defence all game. But MOTM is controlled the tempo of the game and scored a great goal to get us back into the game!

The effort and positivity from all 12 lads today was what we want to see more of! Especially with 2 very tough cup games upcoming.

Our 3rd game in the MT and we face Prem Side Kingsthorpe Athletic. It will be a tough test for the lads but we will be up for it.

The 2nd game of the MT and we face up league 1 challengers

From the get go we controlled the game , we looked very comfortable. Harry, Bill and Dave were causing chaos for the Weekley defenders and we really could’ve taken an early lead. We broke the deadlock with an unstoppable freekick which flew into the top corner. And shortly after a flick on from Billy found its way through to Deeks who finished excellently. Weekley did come close twice , the quick striker got in behind well but Phil kept him out and a corner which ended up bobbling on our line. Nonetheless a really dominant half. 2-0

2nd half was more of the same , plenty of chances for the lads as we kept on creating. Deeks was gifted a back pass which he slots away nicely and Pittam finally got his goal after his 40th shot after great work from Deeks on the wing, although Andrews is claiming a flick on for the assist. A phenomenal bicycle kick clearance off the line stopped Grant getting a goal. The bar kept Alix still waiting for a goal this season, and Stratz and Fitty both had good chances but couldn’t score.

Credit to Weekley they played on , they got themselves a goal after a great finish into the top corner. They are a good bunch of lads and can see why they are challenging in their league.

Probably one of our best performances this season. Complete control but we still need to be more clinical especially up against the Prem sides we face in the next 3 fixtures.

MOTM could have been a handful of people, Ali controlled the game , Goodgame was excellent at RB , but it goes to , 2 excellent finishes and just all round a great game. Although did get himself DOTD as he tried to start the KO next to the opposition defence…

Sunday saw us in Nene Cup action as we faced JC development who were in league 4.

It was not our best game by any means, we failed to convert multiple early chances which caused a lot of tension within the team. Deeks did eventually find the opener after a flick through from Bill.

Jc were up for the fight , they are a young and energetic team who on the day wanted it more than us. They did break though and create some opportunities and if not for Phil would’ve drawn level.

The game was 1-0 until the final few minutes where Jack M got in behind and squared it to Billy.

Credit to JC , with a few more years of experience they will be a good side in the future!!

MOTM is , one of the only lads who just kept it simple which is what we needed, solid in the air and looking more and more comfortable in the midfield as the weeks go on.

We brush this one under the carpet and move onto the last 16 with a draw against Kingsthorpe Athletic

Round of 32 in the Nene cup and we face JC Orchard Development. They are 4 leagues below but we won’t underestimate !

Sunday we had league action against Crick, a team that turned us over last year, so we had a lot to improve.

They enjoyed a lot more of the ball but it always ended up in a long ball over to their Winger/Striker which we were dealing with. We gave them a lot of opportunities due to our own mistakes, our passing/touch just wasn’t there in the first half and if not for some excellent saves from Phil we would’ve been down. We created a few bits of our own but we go into the half 0-0.

Second half was a lot more even, yes they enjoyed the possession but it wasn’t troubling us. Until there striker took a hit from distance, the bounce has caught Phil out and we go 1 down. This woke us up and we started to go more direct, Rhys plays through Billy and he beats his man and finishes to stay stop scorer in the league.

You’d think the momentum had turned but 30 seconds after KO they’ve taken the lead with our whole team asleep. Nonetheless we continue to play, this time an excellent ball from Goodgame who was at RB plays in Dave, again beats his man and finishes well! 2-2

With 5 to go Crick get a freekick , and their man rises highest to restore their lead. All 3 of their goals extremely avoidable which is the frustrating part but plenty to learn from and massive improvements from last season.

MOTM is Jack Adams , he’s been getting better and better and his performance Sunday summed it up. Was dangerous at RW and when asked to play RB after Wh**ey got injured he didn’t put a foot wrong.
