The RSPCA is calling for a "dog lockdown" next week as the weather heats up again ☀️

The charity says even without the extreme highs seen last month, upcoming conditions could still be very hazardous for pets. 🐕

Dog welfare expert Dr Samantha Gaines says: “While the recent extreme heat was tough for everyone, we must be careful not to become complacent as warmer temperatures return. Just because we’ve become accustomed to the higher temperatures, it doesn’t mean our pets are any less affected.

“We need to take extra precautions regardless of an official weather warning, which is why we’re still recommending a temporary ‘dog lockdown’ during this next bout of very hot weather- it’s the only way to beat the heat.”

Sam advised that dog owners should think of the extreme weather like a temporary lockdown for their pets - including skipping walks, not chasing the ball or playing fetch, or exposing pooches to energetic exercise. She advises it’s far better for dogs to miss a few walks completely than to suffer the potentially fatal consequences of overheating, or heatstroke. 🙏

We have two activities going on this Friday 2nd June.

Activity 1:

Our first 2-hour navigation development workshop, Introduction to basic navigation skills starting at 10.30 AM. You don't need anything specific for this activity other than a note pad and pen if you want to take notes and the normal walking gear, drink, snacks, high vis etc. I will provide the maps and compass; we will do some desk work to start with and then go and explore.

Activity 2:
Social walk starting at 1.00 PM. This is a 4ish mile route and is 50% off road and will take approximately 2 hours to complete.

A high vis is required. Please dress according to the weather, bring a drink and snack with you.
