🦁 Bure Valley Lionesses 1 | 2 Costessey Foxes 🦊

Today the Foxes faced an old nemesis in Bure Valley Lionesses, who after a year away playing boys football to challenge their talented team, are now back competing in the girls' league.

And what a game this was.

A top-quality contest between two really good sides. It was fiery at times, with both sets of girls desperate to win, but that's what comes with competing at the top level. The intensity, competitiveness and desire to win was there for all to see.

The Foxes took the lead through Evie, who showed incredible heart to get back up after a heavy fall and continue playing despite being down injured and in a lot of pain. She battled on until half-time, only for us to discover afterwards that she had actually fractured her wrist. Warrior.

Sienna then doubled our lead with a lovely free kick from range, before Bure Valley pulled one back with around 10 minutes to go. From there, the girls had to dig deep and grind out the result, showing another side to their game to see out a fantastic 2–1 win.

Player of the Match – Sienna
What a captain's performance.
Her long throws caused problems all game, she broke up countless attacks and continually drove the team forward. She gave her usual 100% work rate and to top it all off, she stepped up with a fantastic free kick to help seal the three points. A true captain's performance.

Opposition Player of the Match – Isla
Isla produced a brilliant reaction save to deny a point-blank effort that looked destined for the back of the net, pushing it over the bar. She then stood tall for a penalty, using her movement and feints to put the taker off enough to see the spot kick crash back off the post.

4 wins from 4 against top opposition.
The great start continues, but more importantly, the girls are showing that they can win games in different ways. Today they had to fight, compete and grind it out, and they did exactly that.

Credit to every single one of them. Beyond proud.

Costessey Foxes 6 | 1 Bungay

Still unable to use our grass pitch at Longwater, so another week of pitch-hopping for the Foxes as we headed to Open Academy!

The girls were absolutely excellent in the first half, playing some fantastic football and coming into the break 4-0 up. Bungay came out swinging at the start of the second half and managed to pull a goal back, giving us a little reminder that the game wasn't over! But the girls soon settled again, found their rhythm and added another couple of goals to run out 6-1 winners.

Player of the Match – Holly
Holly was everywhere today! Strong in the tackle, great footwork to take players on and always looking to play the ball forward. Her tenacity was brilliant, breaking up so many Bungay attacks and constantly putting us on the front foot. A fantastic all-round performance.

Opposition Player of the Match – Lacie
The usual energy and workrate from Lacie that we've come to expect! She’s still reasonably new to football but has picked things up incredibly quickly and improved so much in such a short space of time. A really encouraging performance from her today.

A brilliant start to the season for the Foxes!
The girls have absolutely hit the ground running and, judging by the performances so far, they mean business! Three games, three wins and plenty of football still to come. Couldn't be prouder of every single one of them.

🐝 Corton 1 | 6 Costessey Foxes 🦊

What a start! The girls absolutely flew out of the traps, racing into a 3-0 lead inside just 7½ minutes!

Corton managed to pull one back, but the Foxes were dominant throughout and spent large parts of the game peppering the Corton goal. The girls hit the bar, hit the post and forced multiple saves from the Corton goalkeeper before eventually adding another three goals to run out 6-1 winners. 👏🏻

Player of the Match – Evie
Evie was on fire! A hat-trick inside 7½ minutes showed exactly how up for it she was, but it wasn't just the goals that impressed. She was buzzing around from the first whistle, giving the Corton defenders absolutely no time on the ball. Her pressing and work rate are seriously impressive and sometimes get overlooked because she scores so many goals! For the first time, we asked Evie to drop into centre midfield to help us see the game out… so naturally, she went and scored within a minute of being moved out of position! 👏🏻

Opposition Player of the Match – Iris
A brilliant performance from Iris, who put in a huge shift out on the wing. She worked tirelessly tracking back to defend as well as pushing forward to support the attack. It's a lot of thankless running, but the coaches see you, Iris! She wasn't afraid to get stuck in, constantly looked to play forward and showed great energy throughout. She also covered up front for a spell and gave us exactly the same work rate and enthusiasm. 👏🏻

Two wins from two to start the league season, against two tough opponents. Plenty to be pleased about, but plenty more to come from this group!

🦊 Costessey Foxes 2 | 0 Catton United 🦁

A 2-0 win for the Foxes today in what was a really good quality match between two top sides! A competitive game played in exactly the right spirit from start to finish. 👏🏻

Opposition Player of the Match – Ivy

Ivy showed great energy today, worked incredibly hard for the team and competed for every ball. A really strong all-round performance against a top side. Exactly what we have come to expect from her, consistently hitting these levels week in, week out. 👏🏻

Parents’ Player of the Match – Sienna

What a shift from Sienna! Brilliant recovery runs to constantly help out the defence, working her socks off from start to finish and putting her body on the line for the team. She never stopped running and gave absolutely everything for the shirt. And when we needed someone to step up, she did exactly that, breaking the deadlock with a left-footed finish to send us on our way! ⚽️🔥

A brilliant game between two very good sides and exactly the type of competitive match we want the girls playing in.

Best of luck to Catton United for their new chapter. We’re sure there’ll be plenty more great battles between our two teams! 👏🏻

Great game of grassroots football today! ⚽

A fantastic battle between Catton United Lionesses and Costessey Foxes this morning.

Two teams giving absolutely everything, plenty of quality football, some brilliant individual battles and, most importantly, the game played in a great spirit from start to finish.

A big thank you to Costessey Foxes and everyone who came along to support both teams.

Great game. Great battle. Great advert for girls’ grassroots football.

Well played, girls! 👏⚽

05.09.26

Battle of the Foxes today as we took on Waveney Foxes U13s in a hard fought friendly. Another great test for the girls and once again stepping up to play a year above. 💪🏻

We honestly can’t fault the effort or performance from the girls. They gave everything from start to finish and were incredibly unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. The Waveney goalkeeper had a cracking game, pulling off numerous really good saves, while we also managed to clip the crossbar!

It just wasn’t our day in front of goal. Waveney got their 3 goals in the first half. Second half ended up being 0-0, we are frustrated not to have scored at least a couple of goals. But thats football and we will take the luck we didn’t get today in the league next week. Final score Waveney 3-0 Costessey.

Huge credit to Waveney a strong, physical team, exactly the kind of opposition we love testing ourselves against. Thanks for the game and good luck for your season! 🦊⚽️

Player of the match - Ivy
Ivy was a complete workhorse, flying up and down that wing for the entire game. Her pace is a massive weapon, and her recovery runs were excellent all evening. She also did brilliantly carrying the ball and driving the team up the pitch. A seriously selfless player who is always looking to do the work for the team. And, in a rare moment of selfishness 😂, Ivy even decided to have a go herself tonight… only to see her shot fly inches wide of the post!

Plenty of positives to take from another really good test against older opposition.

🏆 DUXFORD TOURNAMENT WINNERS! 🏆

Another Sunday, another trip into Cambridgeshire… and another trophy heading back with the Foxes! 🦊🏆

Today we travelled to Duxford for their pre-season tournament, taking on the 9-a-side format.

Defensively the girls only conceded ONE goal throughout the entire tournament, and to be fair, you can’t be too grumpy about that one when it was an absolute top-class finish from the Old Catton striker! 👏🏻⚽

The girls showed quality when it mattered, worked hard for each other and once again proved that travelling away from home doesn't seem to bother them one bit… although the parents might have a few words about the mileage! 😂🚗

🏆 8 tournament wins from 11! The other 3? Semi-final defeats on penalties!

That really is one hell of a record! Especially when you consider we've made the journey into Cambridgeshire twice for Wisbech and Duxford, as well as playing up an age group at Horsford. These girls just keep turning up, competing and giving everything. Today was another day to be incredibly proud of them.

Champions again!
