I’ve had two Squaddies message me separately this morning and both messages were really similar.

Basically, life had got really stressful.

And as a consequence, fitness was the thing that got parked.

Not because they didn’t want to do it. Not because they didn’t care. But because they felt like they couldn’t give it the time and energy they wanted to.

Now both of them are in a place where they’ve come back, they’ve done their first session and they’ve both said the same thing...

“I already feel so much better.”

And firstly, huge well done to them because honestly, that’s the hardest bit!

Drawing a line.

Not focusing on what has or hasn’t happened over the last few weeks or months. Not beating yourself up. Just deciding what you’re going to do next.

Because that’s the only bit we can actually control.

But it also got me thinking...

Life is going to get stressful again.

There will be other busy seasons. There will be times when work is hectic, family needs you more, something unexpected happens or everything just feels a bit much.

So I think part of the answer is changing what we think fitness should look like.

It’s allowed to look different in different seasons of life.

It’s allowed to be shorter.

It’s allowed to be less.

It’s allowed to be a 10-minute stretch instead of a 45-minute workout.

And that still counts.

Because when life feels stressful, looking after your health and wellbeing isn’t less important. It’s actually MORE important.

So if you’ve been waiting until things calm down, or until you’ve got more time, or until you can do it “properly”, maybe this is your reminder that something is always better than nothing.

Even if it’s just 10 minutes.

Are you letting the scales ruin your day? 🤦‍♀️

We've all been there. You put in the hard work aaaaaaaall week, step on the scale and the number hasn't budged or worse, it has gone up! It is an instant motivation killer.

But here is the truth: your weight fluctuates constantly due to water retention, hormones and a dozen other totally normal factors that are TOTALLY.OUT.OF.OUR.CONTROL.

If checking the number makes you feel awful, you have full permission to ditch the scale completely. You absolutely do not need it to get fit, strong and healthy! 🗑️

But if you do want to use it as a tool, you have to treat it like pure data. Weigh yourself at the exact same time every morning and only track your lowest weight of the week. That is the closest thing to your true weight! 📉 You can them compare the data across the weeks and get a clear picture of what’s actually going on with your weight.
