🇬🇧 A Lasting Tribute to Donald Rose

Plans are being put forward for a seven-metre-tall (23ft) mural of Donald Rose on the side of Ilkeston Town Hall, creating a lasting tribute to the town’s much-loved veteran.

Donald Rose, who was recognised as the UK’s oldest surviving Second World War veteran, sadly passed away in July last year at the age of 110.
Donald spent his final years at Canal Vue Care Home in Ilkeston.

His funeral became a remarkable show of community respect, with hundreds of mourners lining the streets of Ilkeston as his funeral procession made its way through the town.

More than 100 motorbikes also joined the procession, escorting Donald to Ilkeston Town Football Club, reflecting the huge affection and respect he had earned within the local community.

The proposed mural would be located on the western corner of Ilkeston Town Hall’s finance block, next to the bus stops on Wharncliffe Road.
A fitting and permanent reminder of an extraordinary man and the lasting mark he left on Ilkeston and its community. ❤️
