Wow, 10 years after this post and I'll be teaching the same class tonight. Contemplating how my baby boy will turn 16 tomorrow while we are in the midst of his GCSE exams 🤯
And resisting the urge to remind all of you new mums how it really does go by too fast 😁

When our body is tense, we experience other sensations more intensely.
This is why it is so important to use breath work to relax your mind and body during birth.
The waves will be so much easier to surf if you do.

Wow BBC! Well done on catching up 😁
This isn't breaking news to me though. I have been teaching active birth education to families since 2014 through my pregnancy yoga classes and my birth preparation courses.
An upright birth has been proven in studies to be more comfortable, quicker, associated with less need for pain relief and leads to fewer interventions as well as mums who use upright positions reporting a greater sense of satisfaction with their birth.
The techniques are really helpful in inductions too, as it helps the body start the process of labour and keeps "the foot on the accelerator pedal of birth".
Honestly I am pleased that the BBC are highlighting this knowledge to the masses though.
I like to teach people how to take ownership of their experience and make informed decisions during birth. And if you don't know that you have choices, you won't be able to advocate for them.
So join me in Blissful Bumps yoga and relaxation classes (with birth education sprinkled in).
Or in one of my comprehensive 'Birth to Baby' antenatal courses with your birth partner, in order to prepare your mind and body for your upcoming birth.

It's only in the past 300 to 400 years that women have been largely giving birth on their backs. Here’s how it started: https://bbc.in/4vh6wp0

The feedback that I get from my clients is generally very positive about the maternity services staff at NUH so it's interesting to see that they unfortunately still require improvement. But I do suspect that this may be the same for a lot, if not most trusts up and down the country so please don't let it worry you too much. But remember that you always have a choice over where you wish to birth.

Today, March 4, the latest Care Quality Commission (CQC) report into our maternity services was published.
We remain committed to continued improvement in our maternity services and recognise that there is more work to do following the publication of our latest CQC report.
The report from the healthcare regulator, which reviewed maternity services at Nottingham City Hospital and Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC) in May 2025, found that there had been no change in the Trust’s overall rating of ‘Requires Improvement’ for maternity services.
The CQC were complimentary of the care provided, and recognised the positive comments of the women and families using the services, explaining that patients had ‘nothing but praise’ for the staff they were cared for by. But did also also identify some vitally important areas in which they required us to improve, including in safety, culture and leadership.
We take the feedback from the CQC very seriously. We are working to address the issues raised in the latest inspection.

Still playing with the newest ChatGPT trend.
But loving the yoga mats it created for me in this picture. Maybe I should get some made.

Every time that I see this memory come up, it makes me smile.
My clever little boy emulating me, by taking it upon himself to give an impromptu antenatal lesson to his class at aged 4. I'm sure the 15 year old him now would die at the thought.
But it's a good reminder to be careful of what you talk about around your children. They are always taking in everything you say, even if it doesn't look like it 😄

The car was so full of props for my Christmas baby classes today, that this big boy had to ride shotgun with me. I'm sure my fellow road users thought I was crazy 🤪.
