🧤🔥 FFS PRO GK TRAINING | SIZE DOESN’T DEFINE A GOALKEEPER 🔥🧤

In football — and especially in goalkeeping — height and size get talked about far too much.

But history (and current elite football) tells a very different story 👇

📏 Being smaller doesn’t make you weaker.
🧠 It often makes you sharper.
⚡ Quicker reactions. Faster feet. Better agility.

Let’s talk facts 👇

• Iker Casillas – approx. 5’11” (1.82m)
🏆 World Cup winner | Champions League legend | One of the best shot-stoppers ever.

• Jorge Campos – approx. 5’6” (1.68m)
⚡ Explosive, fearless, revolutionary — proved positioning and bravery beat size.

• Keylor Navas – approx. 6’0” (1.85m)
🏆 Multiple Champions Leagues | Relied on speed, anticipation and mentality.

• Jordan Pickford – approx. 6’1” (1.85m)
🦁 England No.1 | Elite reactions, distribution and big-game mentality.

• Yann Sommer – approx. 6’0” (1.83m)
📊 Statistically one of Europe’s best shot-stoppers — positioning > reach.

🚨 The truth:
Goalkeeping is about decision-making, footwork, timing, bravery and confidence — not just wingspan.

If you’re a young keeper worried about your height right now…
👉 Stop.
👉 Train what you CAN control.
👉 Let your performances speak.

At FFS PRO GK, we coach the goalkeeper you are, not the one people expect you to be.

💬 Size doesn’t make saves.
🧤 Skill does.
🧠 Mindset does.
🔥 Work ethic does.

🧤🔥 𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐄𝐌𝐁𝐄𝐑 𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐁𝐄𝐆𝐀𝐍 — 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐍𝐄𝐕𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐏 𝐒𝐇𝐎𝐖𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐔𝐏

It doesn’t matter if you’ve moved clubs.
It doesn’t matter if you’ve stepped away.
It doesn’t matter if your journey has changed direction.

👉 Go back.
👉 Watch the team play.
👉 Shake hands.
👉 Support from the sidelines.
👉 Keep those relationships alive.

Football is a long road — and the goalkeeping world is small.

The coach who gave you your first chance? Still watching.
The teammate you trained with on cold nights? Still remembers.
The club you left behind? Still part of your story.

❌ Don’t forget the people who helped you start.
❌ Don’t disappear when you move on.
❌ Don’t think “out of sight” means “out of mind”.

Character isn’t built when things go right — it’s shown when you’ve moved on.

🗣️ Say hello.
👏 Show respect.
⚽ Support without needing anything back.
🧱 Build relationships, not just CVs.

Because football has a funny way of circling back —
and the way you treated people will matter more than any clean sheet.

Stay humble. Stay grateful.
Never forget where you began.

🧤🐐 FOOTBALL’S MOST MISUNDERSTOOD POSITION: GOALKEEPER

Outfield players lose the ball.
Strikers miss sitters.
Defenders switch off.

And when the ball hits the net?

👉 All eyes turn to the goalkeeper.

That blame culture destroys confidence before skill has time to grow.
Fear creeps in. Voices go quiet. Instincts disappear.
And young keepers stop playing brave football.

At FDS PRO GK, we believe it’s time to change that.

If we want stronger goalkeepers, we must build stronger mindsets.

We teach our GKs to:

🛑 Accept mistakes → Learn fast, move on faster
🧠 Control the response → Reset, refocus, re-engage
💪 Build resilience → Pressure creates leaders
📣 Use their voice → Organise, demand, command
🔥 Turn blame into belief → Lead by example

Confidence doesn’t come from never making errors.
It comes from how you react when you do.

A goalkeeper is more than a shot-stopper.
They see everything.
They organise everyone.
They set the standards.

🧤 The GK is not the scapegoat — they are the foundation.

And if you still disagree…
Put the gloves on.
Stand between the posts.
Make decisions under pressure.
Then tell us how easy it is.

Last line. Loud voice. No fear. 💚

🧤⚽ FDS PRO GK — SESSIONS REOPENING SOON ⚽🧤

I’ll be reopening spaces for FDS Pro GK sessions in the coming weeks once a suitable venue isecured.

Due to the weather and darker evenings, I’ll be looking for an all-weather pitch to ensure sessions remain consistent, safe, and high quality throughout the winter months.

👉 Please get in touch to register your interest — spaces will be limited once dates and venues are confirmed.

Availability & current commitments:
• As most of you know I train daily with Notts county and Tuesday and Thursday evening with Claycross and Ilkeston town, as well as playing games mid week and saturday

• That being said early evenings I’m flexible and will do my best to accommodate keepers as much as possible while the nights are dark

I’m eager to deliver high-quality goalkeeper coaching while encouraging, supporting, and developing young people — building confidence, resilience, and belief alongside performance.

I don’t just coach goalkeepers.
I support them, challenge them, and believe in them.

🧤 I strive to be the GK coach every goalkeeper needs.

❌ BEING FIRST CHOICE DOESN’T MEAN YOU STOP COMPETING

Too many teams treat the goalkeeper position like it’s locked in for the season.

But goalkeepers don’t develop through protection.
They develop through pressure, trust, and opportunity.

The “number two” role is often misunderstood.
Not because of talent — but because of perception.

Youth football isn’t about labels.
It’s about growth.

Every coach should remember:

🧤 Game time creates learning
🔥 Competition raises standards
🚀 Today’s number two won’t stay there
💪 Trust builds brave goalkeepers
⚡ Rotation creates mentally strong players

Mistakes will happen — and that’s okay.
That’s how goalkeepers learn.

What doesn’t help?
🚫 Parking development on the bench.

Strong environments don’t rely on one keeper.
They back all of them and let performance decide.

Because if your team only trusts one goalkeeper…
You’re already limiting your future.

🔁 Support development. Trust the process. Share this.

🎉 HAPPY NEW YEAR from FDS Pro Goalkeeping 🧤⚽

A new year brings new goals, new standards, and new levels to reach.

As goalkeepers, we all know one thing: one session a week is not enough if you truly want to improve.

📊 The reality of goalkeeping development
• Goalkeepers make 200–300+ decisions per match, most of them under pressure
• Over 70% of goals conceded come from positioning, decision-making, or reaction time
• Elite goalkeepers average 3–5 focused training sessions per week, not one
• Repetition builds muscle memory — and muscle memory wins games

💡 Training once a week maintains where you are. Training multiple times a week changes where you’re going.

At FDS Pro Goalkeeping, we believe:
✔ Confidence comes from preparation
✔ Consistency beats talent when talent doesn’t train
✔ Small improvements, repeated often, create big results

This year, don’t settle for just turning up — commit to developing.
Commit to better footwork.
Commit to sharper reactions.
Commit to becoming the goalkeeper your team can rely on when it matters most.

🔥 2026 is the year we raise the standard.
Let’s work. Let’s grow. Let’s save more.

Why is the mental aspect so crucial for goalkeepers?

🎯 Unique Pressure Dynamics:
Unlike outfield players, goalkeepers carry the weight of being the “last line of defence.” A single mistake can define the outcome of an entire match, creating unparalleled psychological pressure.

🔄 Isolation & Decision-Making: Goalkeepers spend significant portions of the game mentally engaged but physically inactive, requiring exceptional focus and the ability to make split-second decisions under extreme pressure.

⚡ Instant Recovery Demands:
After conceding a goal, goalkeepers must immediately reset mentally while their teammates and fans may still be processing the disappointment. This resilience is a learnable skill.

🎭 Confidence vs. Overthinking:
The goalkeeper position requires a delicate balance — enough confidence to command the box and make brave decisions, but not so much that it leads to overconfidence or reckless choices.

Key psychological elements I’ve found essential:
• Visualisation and mental rehearsal techniques
• Developing pre-shot and pre-game routines
• Building emotional regulation skills
• Cultivating a growth mindset toward mistakes
• Mastering attention control and focus techniques

The most successful goalkeepers aren’t just technically gifted - they’re mentally bulletproof. They understand that psychology isn’t just part of their training; it IS their training.

What’s your experience with the mental side of goalkeeping? Coaches and players - what psychological techniques have you found most effective?

🌟 **Embrace the Journey** 🌟

As a dedicated academy player since the age of 6, I've faced countless trials and tribulations throughout my journey. Each setback has been an opportunity to rise, to challenge myself, and to come back even stronger.

One key lesson I’ve learned is to **never let anyone underestimate you**. You know your worth and your abilities, so trust in yourself. Work harder every day to become the best version of yourself, and keep pushing forward!

Last night, I had the incredible opportunity to play against some of the best under-23 players in the country. Just weeks ago, I was uncertain about when I’d get my next full 90 minutes, but my hard work paid off. I seized the moment to prove myself once again.

🔥 Remember, every match is a chance to learn and grow. It’s all about perseverance, passion, and believing in your potential.

Let's keep the momentum going and strive for greatness together! 💪⚽

One size doesn’t fit all …. especially not in goalkeeping.

Too often I see goalkeeper coaching drift into copy-paste:
- Same technique.
- Same stance.
- Same footwork.
- Same TV highlight reel.

But when you watch elite keepers closely, the differences are massive:
• Raya prepares narrow and late — yet ultra-sharp.
• Ederson is relaxed, upright, scans until the last second.
• Alisson bursts early, narrows space instinctively.
• Neuer controls space with range and reach.
• Martínez breaks rules but owns moments.

All elite. All different. All effective.

Yet too many coaches still try to “correct” everything that doesn’t match their own blueprint.

Here’s my stance:
If it works , don’t replace it. Refine it.

I don’t coach from textbook idealism. I coach from performance realism.

I build from the keeper’s profile:
• Movement tendencies
• Reaction style
• Confidence anchors
• Strengths under pressure
• Personality and mental rhythm

Then we shape technique that fits.

Because a clean sheet is a clean sheet.
I don’t care if it’s fingertip, foot or forehead, if it works, it works.

That’s why I design Individual Development Plans (IDPs) for every goalkeeper:
• Based on how they move
• What they trust
• What builds flow, not friction
• What sticks under pressure

We don’t teach a technique.
We develop their technique.

Still handing out the same drills to every keeper?
Start with the person, not the pattern.
Build keepers ; not copies.
