Thursday training with Ash Barber at the wheel from AtoB Football Ltd Elite Coaching

Ash had them running from the off tonight working under pressure and they all did brilliantly, never stopped all night!

Anyone of the girls could have taken home trainer of the night tonight but Ash had the job of picking one… he asked if he could have 2 and I said no so sorry Macie as you were his other pick but tonight Erin was the top girl 🥇

👧🏼 BIG SISTER vs LITTLE SISTER 👧🏼

⚽ SJR U14 v SJR U13 ⚽

A friendly against our big sisters today, and what a game it turned out to be! 💪

We started really well and could have taken the lead early on, but shortly afterwards found ourselves 2-0 down. The heads didn’t drop though — far from it. The girls got back to business, started to get a foothold in the game and continued to battle.

A third goal went in before half time, but still the girls kept going right up until the whistle.

3-0 at the break.

With a quick turnaround to make the most of the remaining daylight, the message was simple — keep doing what you’re doing, but talk a little more! 🗣️

The second half saw the girls play some really good football and they got a more than deserved goal. A brilliant throw-in from Pippa found a strong Freya, who did what Freya does and found the back of the net! ⚽🔥

3-1!

Shortly afterwards we were through again, but a fantastic save from the U14 keeper kept us out.

The girls battled and battled, but were caught out a couple more times before the daylight finally gave in.

The scoreline might not have gone our way, but there is a whole lot of pride from the coaches and parents today. ❤️

From the first whistle to the last, the attitude, effort and determination were 100% from every single girl, and honestly, I don’t think we could have asked for much more.

The format was a step up and something completely new for the girls, while they were up against a very good U14 side who moved the ball around really well and punished us whenever we gave them too much space.

But our girls never stopped competing. They never stopped trying. And they never let the scoreline affect their attitude. 👏

With so many of our girls in action for their Sunday teams yesterday, it was inevitable that their talent was going to shine through somewhere… but we certainly didn’t expect 4 of our 8 girls to pick up a Girl of the Game award! 🤩👏

Then we had Freya and Macie travelling away to Bingham, where both girls apparently decided they were going to run the show! 😂🔥

Macie covered every blade of grass on the pitch, putting in a massive performance from start to finish.

Freya, despite carrying a bit of a knock for most of the game, still managed to cause problems all over the pitch and kept battling away. 💪

The girls told me afterwards that their manager Gav had shown them the Old Firm cup game from the previous week and told them he wanted them to play just like Rangers…

Well, mission accomplished girls! 😂👏

🏑⚽️ WHAT A DAY FOR ERIN! ⚽️🏑

After playing a full game of football for SJR this morning, Erin swapped her football boots for a hockey stick and headed off for her first ever Ladies hockey match! 👏

And what a debut it was… 🤯🔥

To go from playing a full game of football in the morning to stepping onto the hockey pitch against Ladies and producing a performance like that is some effort! 💪👏

Although… as her football coach, I’m not quite sure what to make of the fact she still had that much energy left after playing a full game for me this morning! 🤔😂

Either she’s ridiculously fit… or she definitely didn’t work hard enough for me this morning! 😂😂

Jokes aside, what a fantastic achievement, Erin. To play your first Ladies match, score a hat-trick and come away with Player of the Game is absolutely brilliant! 👏🔥

🏆 COUNTY CUP 🏆
⚽ SJR Pink 3–2 Brinsworth Whitehill ⚽

After coming up against Brinsworth twice last season and coming away on the wrong side of two closely fought games, we knew the girls had a big challenge ahead of them today.

But we also knew that, on their day, this group has the ability and quality to cause any team problems. 💪

Unfortunately, we made the task even harder for ourselves early on, turning a great Brinsworth corner into our own net to give them the lead.

The girls responded brilliantly though, and it wasn’t long before Matilda produced a moment of quality, chipping the keeper to bring us level. ⚽️

Brinsworth regained the lead with another dangerous corner, finished off with an even better volley into the net. But once again we responded, with Matilda finding the back of the net for her second of the game to send us into half-time level at 2–2. ⚽️⚽️

At half-time, the message was simple — keep doing what we were doing, but we needed to be quicker and stronger to those first balls.

And the girls delivered. 👊

The tempo went up, we started winning more of the first balls and our football improved significantly. Kyla then slotted home to put us in front for the first time. ⚽️

Both teams continued to create chances right until the final whistle, but the girls held on to secure a 3–2 County Cup victory and book our place in the next round! 🏆💪

A brilliant effort from everyone involved. 👏

Her technical ability and reactions kept us in the game when Brinsworth were putting us under pressure. The first half could quite easily have got away from us if it wasn’t for Ivy covering every inch of that goal — at times it looked like there were two of her in there! 🧤😂

Thursday training and the girls got straight into it with some new drills and all applied themselves as usual… 💪

The heavens literally opened for 5 minutes and that still couldn’t knock them off the stride 👊 🌧️

Still with trainer of the week up for grabs and any of the girls could’ve had it for a great session but it was Maya that I felt gave that little bit more!

⚽️ TONIGHT’S TRAINING SESSION ⚽️

We started tonight’s session with a simple 2v1 practice, focusing on creating overloads, making the right decisions and recognising when to pass, drive or take on the defender.

As the girls got comfortable with the principles, we progressed the practice into a 4v2, giving them more options and introducing more movement, communication and decision-making.

The aim was to get the girls thinking about creating space, supporting the player on the ball and exploiting numerical advantages rather than just playing the pass for the sake of it.

A really good progression from a simple 2v1 into a more challenging 4v2, with plenty of energy, competition and some great football on show. 👏⚽️

Finishing off the session with a 10 minute game where the passing on display was great to watch 🥰

Trainer of the night up for grabs and despite all girls training well both me and Stu called out Lacie, Lacie’s effort was 💯 all night with her passing, tackling and movement in the game on point to top off a great night for her!

⚽️ SJR V SJR ⚽️

Today we met our SJR sister team in the league for the first time since making the move to SJR — and what a game it turned out to be! 👏

A really competitive and physical game from both sides, with plenty of commitment and some great football on show from both teams. 💪⚽️

It was Freya who broke the deadlock inside the opening 10 minutes with a fantastic strike from range to put us 1-0 up. Both sides were seeing plenty of the ball, but we looked dangerous whenever we got forward, with Freya’s through balls being played to perfection — we just couldn’t quite find the finish.

Then, just before half time, Ruby produced a bit of magic! 🤩 A great run down the wing, an unbelievable turn and then a strike that took a deflection and looped over the keeper to make it 2-0 going into the break.

🗣️ Half-time

The message was simple — be a little sharper to the first ball, scan more and, most importantly, keep doing what we were doing.

The second half started with us a little off the pace compared to where we finished the first, despite having the advantage of the wind. We continued to work hard and defended well, and it looked like the game might finish 2-0.

But then came the third! 👌

Alicia delivered a brilliant ball into the box from a corner and Freya was there to volley it home and put the game beyond doubt. 💥

Training this week and we started Tuesday having a session ran by Jake where he put the girls through a good fitness routine with plenty of running, all girls putting in a shift which left us hard to split them for a trainer of the night…

Thursday came and it was Ash Barber of AtoB Football Ltd Elite Coaching who put the girls through their paces with another great effort from the girls in readiness for our game on Saturday…

This time there were a few names that both me, Stu and Ash had in our minds but it was Freya and Alicia who shared the top spot and thoroughly deserved aswell!!
