Coventry Copeswood Titans 3-3 Athletic Sparta U14’s

Penultimate game of the season took us back to our bogey ground at Cov Copeswood for an afternoon kick off against 3rd placed Titans

The afternoon couldnt have got off to a worst start with us conceding a pen in the 1st minute, which in fairness, was despatched perfectly.

But, like against Cov Utd a few weeks before, we dont lie down and always looked a threat going forward and a defensive mix up gave Osker the simple chance to equalise

Titans got a bit of luck with the bounce of the ball to take the lead just before HT and it was then batten down the hatches to get in at HT, especially after losing top scorer Lenny to an injury.

A good HT chat and a change in formation brought a 2nd half performance that was one of the best of the season. Every player putting that extra % in to really take the game to them and was rewarded with a brave Ethan Dickerson header from a great Keegan cross

Spartans sniffing a victory, kept pushing and we were rewarded which without doubt goes straight in as goal of the season from Oskar ( Just glad someone got it on video!) A goal that got all players, coaches and parents talking about from both sides after the game! It deserved to be the winner but.....

Last minute a long ball caught us on our heals and the striker somehow manged to loop it over Hodgey and despite desperate attempts to clear it, it snuck in.

These kids just keep giving and as the season draws to an end, we can only look back at pride at how far we have come as a group. Togetherness, friendship and bloody good footballers!

Really tough one today as Ethan (Dicko) had his best game today with his relentless running and composer, especially playing in a unfamiliar roll up front once Lenny went off

But...when someone scores a worldie like that and is constantly on at the defence, that they are panicking everytime they get the ball, it has to be Oskar.

Now the hangovers have eased we can reflect on what was a fantastic weekend for the young Spartans!

St Ives Football Festival CHAMPIONS!

After a successful 1st day, we went into the 2nd day full of confidence and the message was clear. We are here to win this tournament!

A scrappy 1st game against an 'argumentative ' side from East Sussex was won late for a great header from Lenny after pin perfect corner from Keegan.

The last group game put us against Redruth United who were also unbeaten. Despite it being a tight game, we were the side on the front foot and a brilliant finish from Oskar settled the game.

The final brought us up against Redruth again. Our victory against them 10 minutes before must have spurred them on for revenge as they opened the first minutes on fire but a mixture of great keeping, heroic defending and a bit of luck kept them at bay and allowed us to settle into the game.
2nd half we were the only side in it and with 5 minutes to go, Lenny broke clear and finished perfectly. As Redruth pressed, our Spartans stood tall throwing their bodies on the line to bring the trophy back to Nuneaton!

All the kids were fantastic, both in attitude and performance all weekend and made us all very proud!

Big shout out to all the parents as well for making the weekend a very memorable one!

Athletic Sparta U14’s 2-1 Coventry Copeswood Cobras

Sparta back in midweek league action this evening where we spent the first 20 minutes hiding and sheltering from thunder and lightening!

Once that passed it was game on against a very competitive Cobra's side, who we've always had close games with and today was no exception!

A fast paced first half saw both teams miss chances throughout but it was hard to grumble that it was honours even at HT.

2nd half we asked them to keep their shape and with the benefit of the wind try and support the front two more. Unfortunately a bit of misfortune and lack of concentration saw us conceed early on.

That just spurred the kids on and the equaliser came just a couple of minutes later when Oskar found space on the right from a great cross from Moo and finished perfectly.
From then on there was only one winner and the winner came from great work from Oskar, whos persistence and awareness put Lucas in space on the right who passed it past the diving keeper.

Kids held firm with never looking in any real danger and always looked dangerous on the counter.

Another great 3 points that puts us in a great position to finish the season on a high!

Chapelfield Lionesses 0-7 Athletic Sparta U14’s

The young Spartans finally managed to get in a game after weeks of postponements!

The morning took us to Coventry to face the Lionesses in a League Cup fixture. On a heavy pitch and against opponents who were up for the challenge despite them being two leagues below.

Pre match talk was about not underestimating the opponents and trying to get the ball down as much as possible and play through the midfield.

A couple of early goals helped settle the lads but there was definitely some rusty legs showing. Understandable, as for some this was the first game since way before Christmas.

2nd half we asked for a bit more tempo with both passing and movement. They did just that which resulted in a far more comfortable half being rewarded with 5 more goals.

A little cameo 2nd half run out from Alfie 'Tiny' Jebson as a good bye as he leaves Sparta to concentrate on a hopeful promising Boxing career. All the best to him, who will be missed by all involved with Sparta.

Overall a good morning of football and on to the next round!
