So it has arrived the day we have been waiting for a new chapter for the club and lads.
We travelled over to Heath Lane Academy to take on AFC Barn an opponent who we have played many times over the years and historically had the better of us.
Right from the off the lads new and old were right at it passing our way and not letting them breathe when they had it. In a sign of what was to come new signing Mitchell Piggon whistled a free kick just past the far post. Not long after it was Jude Barnett turn for a free kick which was heading in the top corner until their keeper produced a Worldy of a save to deny him. However from the resulting corner a quick thinking Jude put his corner straight in.
For the next 10-15 we kept playing our passing game which was pleasing on the eye, however a few nervy moments at the back resulted in Danny Hammonds tipping an attempt over the bar.
We were straight back on the attack and then it happened great determination from Aaron Hutchison driving forward playing it into Mitch’s feet about 28 yards out barely no back lift then bang rifles it into the top right hand corner.
Not long after the man was at it again a nice inside pass from George Simmons straight to Mitch who dummied to shoot sitting the defender down then calmly rolled it into the corner. In a dominant spell it was soon four when a Jude free kick found an unmarked Mitch to complete his hat trick. Half time 4-0 a change was made at ht we gave the hat trick hero a well deserved rest for the energetic James Rooke. Jude Barnett then made it five from a cross come shot which found the far corner. Then a lapse in concentration a misplaced pass was punished 5-1. Then came a moment of disbelief when Jude picked up a second yellow and we were down to ten. Inevitably the pressure game and the Barn grabbed two late consolation goals to make it 5-3. We held on and was worthy winners controlling the game for an hour. With alot of eyes on the game the lads have done themselves proud, this is just the start UTF. Adam NelmesJohnathan Clark

Lamb & Flag FC welcomed Royal Oak FC for a competitive Sunday morning fixture on 23rd August, with a 10:45am kick-off.

Lamb & Flag started the game brightly and immediately looked the more comfortable side in possession. Some excellent football early on caused Royal Oak plenty of problems, with Lamb & Flag moving the ball well and creating pressure in the Royal Oak half.

As the first half progressed, Royal Oak gradually grew into the contest and began creating opportunities of their own. However, Danny Hammonds was in inspired form between the sticks for Lamb & Flag, pulling off a number of incredible saves to keep the scores level.

Royal Oak then came agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock, first striking the post before following it up with another effort that rattled the crossbar.

Despite those chances, Lamb & Flag remained the dominant side for large periods of the opening 45 minutes, but neither team could find the breakthrough.

Half-Time: Lamb & Flag 0–0 Royal Oak

The second half followed a very similar pattern, with Lamb & Flag continuing to look the more threatening side and Royal Oak struggling to get close to the hosts.

Lamb & Flag continued to play some good football and looked in control of the game, but football can be a cruel game.

Eventually, a looping ball into the box caused problems for Danny Hammonds, who struggled to claim it. The loose ball fell kindly to a Royal Oak player, who reacted quickest to fire home the rebound and give Royal Oak a 1–0 lead, despite the goal coming very much against the run of play.

Lamb & Flag pushed for an equaliser but were unable to find the finish required, as Royal Oak held on to take the victory.

Full-Time: Lamb & Flag 0–1 Royal Oak

A frustrating result for Lamb & Flag, who will feel they deserved more from the game after dominating large spells and creating plenty of opportunities.

Despite the defeat, there were plenty of positives to take, with good football, a strong competitive performance and valuable minutes in the legs ahead of the new season.

A 1–0 defeat, but plenty of encouragement for the season ahead. Thanks to Stockingford Royal Oak we wish you all the best for the upcoming season, a great bunch of lads 💙⚽ Adam NelmesJohnathan Clark
