Second visit of the day to see Gary Rodger and gather more data from his greens. Overall, the results were very positive with the data gathered showing progress in all areas of the process. The playing surfaces are magnificent with superb consistency seen across all greens and a very happy membership who get to play on them every day.

Great to be back to see Keith Burgon and gather more data from his greens. Another brilliant set of results gathered from the 8 tests carried out. The putting surfaces are superb with a strong cover of fescue and bent grasses dominating the turf. Thanks for the game yesterday Keith which was very enjoyable.

The role of the greenstaff is rarely seen by the majority of people that play golf as most of their work is done in the early morning, even in the dark occasionally to stay ahead of golf. For the last week I volunteered to help out at the Nexo DP world tour event at the Trump Golf links in Aberdeen. My thanks to Steve Wilson and Eddie Irvine for allowing be to be involved gathering green speed data each morning. The level of consistency from greens 1-18 was remarkable which is a credit to Steve, Eddie and all the greenstaff who work the links every day. The attention to detail in the morning set up was top drawer with nothing left to chance. Well done lads a superb team effort and thank you for allowing me to be part of it.

Finals weekend at Pitmedden bowling club. Ian Fraser’s Green is in fantastic condition as it has been all season. Well done Ian hope the weekend goes well for the finals.

Early morning visit to see Chris lamb and gather more data from his greens on both courses. Excellent data returned from all greens tested with results gathered akin to a links course regarding moisture, percolation and firmness. Great work being done year round by Chris and his staff.

Perfect morning to spray the green. Usual tank mix to maintain good hydration and plant health. Cycle with the sprinklers to wash it all in. Hot here already @ 19 degrees.

I’ve spent the last two days in the Kingdom of Fife gathering data for David Gray and the Fife Golf Trust on four of their courses. Scoonie GC, Glenrothes GC, Kinghorn GC and Dunnikier Park GC were all tested with excellent results gathered from all four courses. The structured approach by FGT to manage all seven of their courses in a similar vein is paying off with consistent soil and turf conditions found across all courses.

Beautiful summers morning at Banchory Golf Club to gather more data for Marc Lawrence. The greens are performing very well and look superb overall. Great work by Marc and his staff.

Mid season aeration work made a huge difference to the dry areas after the hot dry spell alongside some aquashield wetter and sea nymph triple concentrate seaweed. Great work by Steve and the members looking after the green.

Great progress made in the last year at Inverurie bowling club. 2025 was a difficult summer with no irrigation to the green. Severe dry patch over the whole surface left the green with 50% grass cover going into last autumn. Fast forward a year and the results have been fantastic. New Barenbrug fescue seed, stress control fertilisers through the winter months and 3 weekly applications of consolidate plus, tri smart wetting agent and Sea Nymph triple concentrate seaweed have transformed the surface. Almost 100% grass cover now.
