What a day last Friday racing at the UK Ekiden!
A tough course, tough competition, and a lot of hard racing, but it was an incredible experience. Watching Ella produce an incredible sprint finish and hold off a charging Exeter athlete right to the final metres after 112km of racing, it was a day to remember.

Massive effort from the whole team from OUCCC. We couldn’t be more excited to be heading to the ASICS House in Font Romeu for a training week, plus £3,000 in prize money!!
Still buzzing from the racing and already looking forward to what’s next.

OUTriC x Rowing Crossover
After all the logistical effort from .oj , and pulling in some last-minute subs, OUTriC set off in one of the least-set boats in history. This went unnoticed by the public, as we were too busy catching everyone’s eye with our combination of bike helmets, swimwear, goggles, and even floaties. 🏊♀️ 🚲 🏃♂️
The endurance and wattage of triathletes, together with a surprisingly balanced boat at 36 strokes per minute, made us fast. After a perfect fly-and-die start, we left a scary Pembroke in the dust, holding clear water from Univ Boathouse onwards. We then had two hours to collect our souls before the second race, where — even after changing the boat, and racing on City side — we gained clear water in no time.
With expectations high after two victories, we faced New College in our third race of the day. Unfortunately, despite the whole crew giving everything, an almost boat-stopping crab and the stream on the City side made it impossible to close the gap, bringing our Oriel Regatta adventure to an end.
We went home happy and proud nonetheless, showing that a fourth discipline would not be a challenge for OUTric members, although we will stick to three for the time being.
Thank you to Worcester College Boat Club for letting us use a boat and to all the non OUTriC members who were in the boat.
