Our very first Community Partner episode with Genki Judo Club ๅ…ƒๆฐ— is live! ๐Ÿ‘Š

Great chat with Allan on all things Judo, the benefits of it, and how he and the other coaches are helping to create a welcoming space for beginners to get fit, strong and confident!

Which is a message that resonates with my mission for Get Active Coaching CIC and one of the reasons I was keen to have this chat ๐Ÿ˜Š

Super excited to share that our first ever Community Partner for the podcast is Genki Judo Club ๅ…ƒๆฐ— ๐Ÿ‘Š

According to the Royal Osteoporosis Society, 50% of women over 50 will break a bone due to osteoporosis.

When I was researching for this week's episode, this one stat stood out to me. And women in Scotland are disproportionately affected than other areas in the UK due to low vitamin D and other lifestyle factors (diet/exercise)!

Another big risk factor for women is Menopause.

BUT strength training can help reduce this risk! ๐Ÿ’ƒ

Just 2, short resistance training sessions per week can help you build muscle, increase bone density and improve your balance ๐Ÿ’ช

It's not just about looking good, strength training is awesome for improving your quality of life ๐Ÿ˜Š

True or false...

Lifting weights will make you look bulky?

I still hear this in the gym at Get Active Coaching CIC and I'm not sure who convinced women that this was the case but I'm afraid to tell you....

It's complete BS ๐Ÿ‘Š

Lifting weights will make you strong, lean, more confident, more capable, and improve your quality of life ๐Ÿ’ช

One of the things I ponder about a lot (and yes, this is where I ponder at Get Active Coaching CIC ๐Ÿ˜‚) is how do we make strength training more accessible to people who don't engage in traditional settings OR more specifically people who don't think strength training is for them...

A lot of the stigma around strength training comes from the messaging - particularly targeted at women.

The idea that lifting weights makes you "bulky" and doing cardio makes you "toned" is a real head scratcher because it's not what I'm seeing on the gym floor and it's definitely not what the research support - in fact, in some ways, the opposite is true ๐Ÿ‘€

Big episode coming tomorrow to breakdown the "bulky" myth for women so tune in on Spotify at 8amโœŒ๏ธ

One of my favourite things about strength training isn't watching someone lift a huge weight.

It's watching someone realise:

"Actuallyโ€ฆ I can do this."

The first time someone picks up a weight they were convinced was "too heavy."

The first time they do a movement they thought they couldn't.

The first time they look back at where they started and realise how much they've changed.

Those moments are why I love coaching ๐Ÿ‘Š

Introducing....

๐Ÿ‹๏ธ The Buddie Barbell Podcast

The mission hasnโ€™t changed - making strength training accessible, practical and relevant to everyday people right here in Paisley & Renfrewshire.

But the original name didn't quit fit what I had in mind to support local people to take positive steps with their health.

I want the podcast to reflect where weโ€™re from and who weโ€™re here to serve: Paisley, Renfrewshire and our local community using what I'm seeing on the gym floor with Get Active Coaching CIC as reference for how the people of Paisley can make positive changes to their health and fitness!

Expect the same honest conversations, practical advice, research and local guests, with an even stronger focus on building healthier, stronger communities.

"I don't want to get too muscular."

I hear this one a lot.

Especially from beginners.

But here's the thingโ€ฆ

Building a large amount of muscle takes a lot of time, training and consistency.

For most beginners, the goal isn't to become a bodybuilder.

It's to become stronger.
Being able to carry things more easily.
Getting up from a chair.
Climbing stairs.
Feeling more capable.
Having confidence in your body.

Muscle isn't something you need to be afraid of.

It's something worth looking after.
Think of it as physical savings for the future.

And unlike a pensionโ€ฆ
you get to use it now too. ๐Ÿ’ช
