We are now recruiting at 2426 (Pencoed) Squadron Royal Air Force Air Cadets. The Royal Air Force Air Cadets is open to both boys and girls, whatever your background or nationality. You need to be aged over 12 from the start of School Year 8 and before your 17th Birthday when you join – once you’re in you can stay until you turn 20.
You’ll normally attend Air Cadets two evenings a week to start with. There are loads more weekend and holiday activities to get your teeth into, so how much you do with us is up to you.
Remember, the Air Cadets isn’t a recruiting organisation for the RAF and you won’t be expected to follow a career in the Armed Forces. All we’re interested in is you and what you can achieve with us.
If you’re interested in becoming a cadet with this Squadron, please contact the Squadron, either by telephone
07932 904453
The Squadron has a voice mail system so just leave your name, message and contact details and we will return your call when we are next in the office or email the Squadron at [email protected] gov.uk to arrange a visit to the Squadron to meet us.
As a cadet, you’ll get the chance to do things that others only dream about:
• Cadets have the opportunity to undergo air experience flying and gliding pilot and navigation training
• Adventurous training in the UK, where you could try rock climbing, abseiling and canoeing
• Rifle shooting is also available and cadets can qualify to a Bisley standard and other shooting competitions
• As a cadet you will have the opportunity take part in all kinds of sports that you can compete in at Squadron level and if selected you will then represent the Wing at our Region
• UK camps are normally for a week at RAF Stations around the country, you will take part in many varied activities and meet cadets from other Squadrons
The RAFAC runs a comprehensive training programme that is designed to cover a large range of subjects. During your time as a cadet you will start at the First Class level this will cover the basic subjects i.e. ATC, RAF, map reading etc. Next you will move onto Leading, Senior and Master Cadet these subjects will give you a more expansive area of interest outside of your full time education. At the completion of your Master Cadet exam you will automatically qualify for a BTEC Level 2 in aviation studies, more on this and the rest of the subjects available when you become a cadet. After completing the Master Cadet qualification you can go on to take the Methods of Instruction course, by passing you will become an Instructor Cadet.
The RAFAC also offers the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Also Institute of Leadership Management Level 2 Award, which is a national award that is recognised by employers so it will benefit your CV, as well as being useful on squadron as an instructor. The BTEC qualification is a national vocation equivalent to two GCSEs at A-C grade. So as you can see the RAFAC can offer you extra academic qualifications to add to your future educational achievements.
There are many opportunities in the form of an educational nature on offer with us that will improve your skills as far as communication, leadership, theory and practical development is concerned.
If you’re thinking about a career in the Armed Forces, cadet membership will put you ahead of the competition. Many cadets go on to great success in the RAF (and the other Forces). And if you choose a civilian career, employers just love the skills and leadership offered by the Air Cadets.
We’ll supply your uniform, your training, some of the best experiences of your life and a bunch of amazing friends to share them with. All you need to bring is a committed attitude and a hunger for adventure!
