Our Women’s 1st Team had a successful day away at Southport today …
With the team travelling with a slightly different squad, the first 10 mins started very frantically and Penrith went 1-0 down. The girls woke up and midfield of Charlotte, Titch, Barbara, Issy and Poppy worked hard to transition the ball and definitely put in some mileage. Fleming converted a straight strike off a well deserved penalty corner to take the score to 1-1 at half time 🏑
Into the second half, a great ball up the right went to Lillie who got time in the D for a lovely lifted ball over the keeper. Maintaining a high press Ellie managed to pinch the ball and played it across the D where Titch pounced on the loose ball to score the 3rd 🙌🏻
Southport did not give up but our defensive line of Liz and Kat out wide and Imogen and Fleming double teaming in the middle held strong. Our final goal came from a turnover in our back line and the counter attack was on! Great play through the field and then a lovely ball to Ellie who’s first time shot beat the keeper 😁
The match wasn’t quite over though and after a questionable tackle Southport were awarded a flick. Our amazing stand in keeper of Suzanne, who had made some great saves throughout the match, couldn’t quite reach the shot, finishing the game with 4-2 win ⭐️
Special mentions to Suzanne for stepping in as keeper, Lillie and Poppy for their 1st team debuts, Emma for coming as a sub but instead being a very loud supporter and coach Rishi for controlling from the sideline ❤️
🔴MOM was joint between Barbara for some amazing play in the middle and Imogen for the interception, tackles & fab vision 👏🏻
⚫️DOD went to Liz for sending not 1 but 4 balls off free hits straight into the D before going 5 metres, also meaning the team got a telling off at half time for not knowing the basics 🤦🏼♀️
🥅Goal scorers: Fleming, Lillie, Titch & Ellie
