Belles on Bikes is a social cycling group for women in Tayside... all ages and abilities welcome! Some frequently asked questions...
How do I join?
The Tayside Belles started in April 2015 with volunteer ride leaders running regular social rides for women in the Tayside area. We are now running the group through Spond, see below, including advertising and signing up for rides. New ladies are welcome to come along to any of our rides provided you have a roadworthy bike. You can now officially join the group by following this link
We manage member's contact details through Spond. It allows us to be GDPR compliant and also to manage communications. We charge a £3 membership fee for the year, collected via Spond. This is to cover our Group Insurance and any left overs are used for spare inner tubes etc. What do I need to bring? All you need to join a ride is a roadworthy bike. If you have not been out on your bike for a while then it is definitely worth pumping up the tires and giving it a quick check over the day before. We usually have a coffee stop so money for coffee or lunch is good. I have not been on my bike for a while … will I keep up? Our rides are social rides not races. We usually average 10mph on our rides. If you are comfortable riding a bike and are reasonably fit and healthy then you will be fine. If you are not very confident then you may wish to come along to one of our shorter rides in the first instance to see how you feel. Are there any other women's cycle groups in the area? Yes, there is growing interest in women's cycle groups and there are a number within the Tayside area. Fife Belles (www.facebook.com/bellesonbikesfife) are based in the south of Fife but run rides across Fife. Ladies Leisurely Cyclists are based in Forfar/Kirrimuir and their sister group Arbroath Cycling Ladies can be found on Facebook. The Dundee Bike Club is another local group which can be found on Facebook. It is open to both men and women and they also run family rides. If you have any other questions or queries please feel free to post to the page or send a private message. Belles on Bikes Tayside is part of the 'Belles on Bikes' network of women's cycling groups developed and supported by CTC, the National Cycling Charity. The development of Belles on Bikes is currently funded through CTC by Cycling Scotland and 2014 Communities. Belles on Bikes aims to support women to get cycling together in a friendly, relaxed and inclusive environment.
