Plymouth Phoenix Ice Hockey

The Southern Recreational Cup season may be over, but we do have some (potentially) exciting news that we have been told we can share with you all!

As some know, one of our players started a petition last year to help Plymouth get the ice arena that was once promised, quickly joined by another player to help push the petition. This then grew to a small consortium of people from Plymouth Phoenix and Plymouth Ice Skating Club.
The petition quickly grew and when it was shared with the relevant persons at Plymouth City Council, we were invited for a Teams meeting and we geared up for a fight.

However, we didn’t get one.

Councillor Kate Taylor and her colleague were on our side! This is when the work really began, with the promise of support from the Council, IF a developer could be found.

After a hopeful email was sent, a developer (who will remain nameless for now) became very interested.

Another meeting was organised, this time in person and with the CEO of said developing company present remotely.
This meeting was extremely beneficial for all parties, and at this moment things seem to be progressing very positively.

Councillor Kate Taylor - Cabinet Member for Finance and Sport has prepared for us the following statement:

"I am leaving no stone unturned in trying to bring additional sport and leisure facilities - including an ice rink - to Plymouth after all the many missed opportunities in the last few years.

Whilst a lot of the conversations we have had are technical (and therefore less exciting!) I feel more positive than ever that we are working towards some exciting opportunities in Plymouth.

There are always new opportunities for increased and improved sport and leisure options coming down the track and I am working my hardest to make sure we don't miss out on any of them."

So, in no way are we saying outright that we WILL be getting a new rink in Plymouth, but after more than a year of hard work, research, dedication and sending who knows how many emails to who knows how many companies, the future is certainly starting to look bright and icy for Plymouth!

Keep your fingers, toes, skates, sticks crossed!

PHOENIX WIN!

Plymouth Phoenix rose from the ashes and led for the duration.
Maddogs didn’t back off, and kept it close but Phoenix kept their beaks in front with a late goal from the Captain to take it out of reach.
A backs to the wall effort for the last couple of minutes saw Plymouth defending for their lives, with a seconds to go clearance confirming the victory!
