Another fun building game for Christmas Pressies. Although cardboard boxes are cheaper they are harder for kids with dyspraxia to put together. They also can't be broken down stored and put back up again as easily as these kits. We like the Mine Craft colour scheme. Anything to get them away from screens and actively building!! Great site for sensory toys, helpfully listed under categories, such as oral motor. We really like this site and their prices are not too bad. It often gives you ideas for toys that you can buy even cheaper in your local supermarket! Great for browsing, and helpful for those birthday and Christmas wish lists!

Parents often ask us about good Christmas presents to get kids hands moving. It’s often really hard to know what toys to buy, and to work through all the options when deciding what works at the right level for your child. So here is a brilliant comparison and review site that helps with making this choice. We love it and it’s already given us some great new ideas that we didn’t have before!Have a really happy Christmas from us all here at Blue Sky Therapies

Many thanks to you all, for making such an interesting day at Friends and Families of Special Children, Plymouth! It was really good to meet you all.
Here is a link to the ear defenders that we discussed. You can look around but Screwfix seem to have these at the cheapest price right now. There are three grades, we have posted a link to the entry level. You will find these are highly effective, but you can go to the next two levels if needed, Optime II and Optime III. These types of ear defenders, are designed to allow vocal frequencies through, whilst cutting out other frequencies. This means that you are not at such a risk of socially isolating someone when they wear them. Trying them on is a revelation! It really makes you realise how hard auditory systems are working all the time.
We advise, that you use these as sparingly as possible. Some children become dependent on them, but if possible encourage children to have them available, to put on in the event that there is an auditory emergency! In this way they can get used to using their ears normally, but knowing that they have a safe option to fall back on in an instant. This takes some playful experimentation at first. For the children who like to chew, or pick apart things, it’s possible to buy replacement foam and ear pads, which is cheaper than buying a complete new set! Hope this helps:-)
