The wait is almost over.
The training sessions have been completed. The pre-season fixtures have been played. Boots have been cleaned, shirts prepared and the pitches are ready.
On Saturday, another chapter in the history of Beddau Rugby Football Club begins.
But Beddau RFC in 2026/27 is about far more than what happens when the First XV takes to the field.
It is about hundreds of players, coaches, volunteers, parents, supporters and sponsors.
It is about youngsters pulling on a Green & Gold jersey for the first time and senior players who have worn it for years.
It is about Saturday afternoons at Mount Pleasant Park, Sunday mornings with the Bulldogs, Youth rugby, the Athletic and Colliers, and players progressing through the pathway.

The First XV – We Go Again:
There is plenty of excitement surrounding the First XV as another campaign in the WRU Admiral Community Premiership gets underway.
After finishing runners-up last season, the challenge now is to go again.
Head Coach Lee Davies and his coaching team have put the squad through a demanding summer programme designed to prepare them for another highly competitive Premiership campaign.
There have been sessions away from the traditional rugby field, including work at the Merthyr Mawr sand dunes and Pontypridd Parkrun, alongside the rugby and conditioning work required for the season ahead.
Pre-season has provided valuable tests against Old Redcliffians, Newport and Bridgend, allowing the coaching team to look at different combinations and give opportunities across the squad.
Now the competitive rugby begins.
And it begins on the road.
Beddau travel to newly promoted Bedwas on Saturday, before returning to Mount Pleasant Park to welcome Llangennech a week later.
Trips to Neath and a home fixture against Narberth complete a mouthwatering opening month.
There will be difficult afternoons ahead. That is the nature of Premiership rugby.
But the Green & Golds are prepared for the challenge.

Athletic XV – A New Challenge:
Few teams could have enjoyed a better 2025/26 campaign than Beddau Athletic.
An unbeaten league season brought the Division Six East Central title to Mount Pleasant Park, while the side also completed a memorable double by lifting the Mid District Cup.
Now comes the next challenge.
Promotion brings new opponents, tougher fixtures and another opportunity for players to develop within the senior section.
That development is hugely important.
The Athletic is not simply another Beddau team. It provides an important bridge for players pushing towards First XV rugby while also allowing established players to enjoy competitive rugby in Green & Gold.
Following last season’s success, there is every reason to look forward to another exciting Athletic XV campaign.

The Colliers XV:
The success wasn’t confined to the First XV and Athletic XV last season.
Beddau Colliers also enjoyed an outstanding campaign, completing an unbeaten league season and winning the Black League.
They also reached the Ivor Williams Cup Final.
The Colliers represent another important part of Beddau’s senior rugby structure and provide further opportunities for players to represent the club.

The Next Generation:
Perhaps nothing is more important to the long-term future of Beddau RFC than its pathway.
From the youngest Bulldogs beginning their rugby journey through Minis and Juniors, Youth rugby and eventually senior rugby, the aim remains the same:
Give young people the opportunity to enjoy rugby, develop and see how far the game can take them.
Beddau’s Minis and Juniors section now provides rugby opportunities from Under-6 through to Under-16, supported by a huge team of volunteer coaches.
Above them sits Beddau Youth, providing the crucial next step towards senior rugby.
And there are already examples throughout Welsh rugby of where that pathway can lead.

More Than Players:
Of course, none of this happens without the people behind the scenes.
Long before the referee blows the whistle on a Saturday afternoon, people have already been working.
Coaches planning sessions.
Team managers organising.
Medical staff preparing.
Ground staff maintaining pitches.
Kit being sorted.
The clubhouse being prepared.
Sponsors providing vital support.
Parents transporting children.
Volunteers giving up their evenings and weekends.
And supporters turning up regardless of the weather or result.
They might not score the tries.
Their names might never appear in a match report.
But without them, there is no Beddau RFC.

Mount Pleasant Park:
Then there is home.
Mount Pleasant Park or "The MPP" as it's become affecionately known.
For generations of players and supporters, it has been much more than a rugby ground.
It’s where friendships have been made.
Where youngsters have watched their heroes and later found themselves wearing the same jersey.
Where matches have been won and lost.
Where trophies have been celebrated.
And where the community comes together.
Another season means another collection of memories waiting to be made.

Our Community:
Beddau RFC belongs to its community.
That relationship remains every bit as important today as it has throughout the club’s history.
We encourage youngsters from the surrounding area to grow up wanting to represent Beddau.
We enjoy it when families spend their weekends socialising at Mount Pleasant Park and the Clubhouse.
We welcome the former players who continue walking through our clubhouse doors.
We hope local businesses can feel pride in their support of the rugby club.
And we aspire to have everyone who pulls on Green & Gold to understand that they are representing something far bigger than themselves.

The Journey Starts Again:
Nobody knows exactly what the next eight months will bring.
The nature of the beast dictates there will be victories to celebrate along with the occasional disappointment to swallow.
There will be tries scored, tackles made and probably a few nervous final minutes.
There will be youngsters making their senior debuts.
There will be players making their first appearances in Green & Gold.
There will be Sunday mornings full of Bulldogs learning to love rugby.
And there will be Saturday afternoons at Mount Pleasant Park when the Green & Gold family comes together.
That is what makes a rugby club.
Not simply the results.
The people. The friendships. The pathway. The community.
So as another season begins, we wish every Beddau RFC team, player, coach and volunteer the very best for 2026/27.
And to our supporters – "Thank you".
Your support matters more than you will ever realise.
Come along. Bring the family. Bring a friend. Support every Beddau side.
Because whether you’re six years old and pulling on the jersey for the first time, or you’ve been standing on the touchline at Mount Pleasant Park for fifty or more years, you are and will always be considered a part of our family.

Cardiff Rugby Community Foundations initiative, Fit, Fed, Fun camp is running for 50 of our children. It provides free sporting activities and includes a free breakfast and lunch.
