Wizard Wednesday | Ogwyn Alexander

As we celebrate 150 years of Aberavon Rugby Club, every Wednesday we'll look back at the players who have worn the Blood & Black with pride and helped shape the club's rich history.

This week's Wizard is Ogwyn Alexander.

πŸ‰ Position: Wing Forward

Ogwyn Alexander was a key part of the great Aberavon packs of the 1970s, playing his rugby in an era when the Wizards were among the most feared sides in Wales. Alongside the likes of Richie Davies and Phil Clarke, he formed part of what was regarded as one of the best back-row trios in the country at the time.

Ogwyn started in the back row for Aberavon in back-to-back Welsh Cup Finals at the National Ground in Cardiff β€” against Llanelli in both 1974 and 1975 β€” playing alongside club greats like Allan Martin, Clive Shell, Billy Mainwaring and John Bevan. He also turned out for a combined Neath-Aberavon side against the touring New Zealand All Blacks at The Gnoll in January 1973, standing shoulder to shoulder with some of the finest forwards the club has ever produced.

A true clubman from a golden era of Aberavon rugby, Ogwyn's contribution in the pack helped lay the foundation for some of the Wizards' most memorable seasons.

Thank you for everything you gave to the Wizards.

150 years in the making. πŸ”΄βš«

Introducing our 150th Anniversary Home and Away jerseys.

The Home shirt takes us back to our roots, a classic collar and the famous red and black hoops that have defined the Wizards for a century and a half.

The Away kit steps forward, a fresh green and blue hooped design, still finished with that timeless collar.

One shirt honours where we came from. The other shows where we're going.
