It was 3-0 by half time a corner met by and two assists for allowing and Butcher to treble the lead going into the break. The second half was more of the same Standard finding joy out wide on both sides the first of deliveries was brought down by for .hoyes95 before the second was put away by Preece himself. Tunco would then find in the box who sent his shot into the top corner before the final and pick of the goals Mercers deep cross was hit on the Volley by Hoyes for 7-0 before Phoenix were able to score a late consolation.

Our TGM Electrical Man of the March for Sundays final victory went to the definition of a big game player, ice in the fu***ng veins, pressure what pressure, this is just what he does 🧊 🧤

Its victory for the Royal Standard this year who get their hands on the Miles Rothwell League Cup at the second time of asking.

It would be fair to say Standard had to defend for large parts of the game against the best offensive line Gloucester could produce for this contest. A limiting first half meant could not quite get on the end of a pass across the face of goal whilst header from a was well kept out by the Gloucester keeper at the far post.

The second half was more of the same and as time started to run out the game opened up a bit more getting into more space drawing numerous fouls as Gloucester threw more bodies forward but this was largely dealt with by Zima, Burton and at the back with and putting in some huge tackles in the last 20.

It would need penalties to decide the game and up steps who is no stranger to shootouts at the BLS. With the Gloucester keeper saving Zima’s effort Sapsworth was able to respond instantly to deny the Gloucesters Matt Chambers and John Pritchard. made no mistake from the spot either which left to convert our 5th penalty for a hard earned victory.

Royal Standard began their Miles Rothwell campaign with a big win at Redlands this morning. 3 points in the opening group fixture takes us to the top of the group.

Standard managed to go into the break 3-1 up despite some early Gloucester pressure, the introduction of who found the net with help from and changing the tie either side of an effort meant we led at the break.

Gloucester would pull one back midway through the second half before a Butcher free kick eventually made its way into the net off the defence, own goal. Gloucester would replied almost immediately to make it 4-3 but that is how the game stayed.

Standard will next be in action for our second and the final Miles group game vs Spa, Tuesday 28th April a rare evening kick off 18:30 at Redlands.
