This is an Airbike finisher at the end of their strength session.

Going all out digging in when you feel like quitting builds mental as well as physical strength. Something that’s needed in all sports if you want to win. Working in pairs and going against others builds the competitor in you too, again this is something that winning games needs… people who have the will and want to do that bit more than their rivals.

At Unleashed Performance, we took on the Welsh Three Peaks Challenge:

Lee and I took an intrepid group of UP adventurers to Wales to complete the 24hr challenge. The three highest peaks in Wales: Snowdon(1085m), Cadair Idris (893m) ,Pen Y Fan (886m) all within 24hrs.

Weather was beautiful, and the views were truly breathtaking. We were so fortunate to have clear skies for the night walk up Pen Y Fan… it was impressive to say the least.

It was a great team event that was both challenging and inspiring. There’s nothing like being up in the mountains with like minded people just taking it all in and having conversations about everything and anything… it really is medicine for the soul.

This weekend some of our members joined us on a 10k Trail Run through Swinley Forest 🏃🌲

Amazing views and superb efforts all round; especially as running in that sort of terrain was a first for some, but they all did a fantastic job! The perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Duke st came out on top with the most MEPS over 3 weeks… So well done to everyone who put in the extra work to hit those scores 🔥

Was great fun too with their shuffle boards for entertainment and little more competition 😂

Great to see everyone outside of the gym and building the all important community that we love.

These two legends, our very own Awesome trainer Lee Carnaby and UP member Mark Dyson are competing this weekend in the Hyrox worlds. All we ask from our members and in fact all they NEED to do to is…

1 - Turn Up
2 - Put the effort in that we demand for that particular session

It really is THAT simple.

We literally take care of everything else. There’s no need to think about a plan, structure, reps or sets they just turn up and put the effort in.

We even take care of their nutrition. All they need to do is apply the information and if they want they can follow a whole detailed plan.

We even take care of events to keep motivation high and and something to aim for along with fitness testing.

Haha we even go out for socials from time to time and take care of the food and drinks. 🥩🥂

If you can commit to training 3 times a week, turn up when you say you will, put the required effort in then could have the most simple pathway to fitter healthier you. One that is effortless (not in a physical sense ha) and with a like minded awesome community.

Sounds simple doesn’t it?

HYROX DUMP - Now we are all back to the land of living after 2 days at in London. I want to give a massive shout out to all our amazing members that competed and those that came to support them. You were all just AWESOME in your approach to taking on this event and I’m super proud of all of you and your efforts.

I know I speak for every single one of the UP coaches when I say that it’s these times, seeing your achievements and seeing what it means to you that makes us love what we do and gives it absolute meaning.

You will all take something from every event and every challenge that that you do, which will help you be stronger in and out of the gym. That’s why we will always encourage you to take on these challenges and show you what you’re capable of.

For those that don’t know what HYROX is. HYROX competition is made up of a 1km run followed by 1 functional workout, repeated 8 times (meaning 8km run in total, plus 8 functional workouts). It requires strength, speed, power and endurance and, in many ways, is a fantastic test of overall fitness.

It’s an event that is perfect for us because it’s how we train at UP. We talk about “real fitness for real people” and this is a great way to test that.

They have trained hard and will no doubt do themselves extremely proud. Some would never have thought they would be doing events like this but that’s what fitness is all about… ever evolving goals and continually challenging yourself to push to new limits.

UNLEASHED PERFORMANCE - WELSH 3 PEAKES 🗻24 HOUR CHALLENGE 2023: another fantastic trip with some of our awesome members…Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen Y Fan, the highest peaks in Wales North, Mid and South - all within 16 hrs, including driving. This was despite the fact that we had a knee injury, requiring us to rig a stretcher and get one of the team off the mountain - really proud of everyone to rally around… it was an awesome team effort. Kudos too to The North Face for making jackets that can be made into stretchers and stand the test! 😳💪🏽

It’s weekends like these that make all the efforts put into the gym worthwhile. Without it you just can’t experience these things. It’s also what separates us from anywhere else… we are a community. ❤️

Nutrition is one the most important things we all need to get right. Let’s face it, regardless if we train/exercise we all NEED good nutrition just to exist and stay healthy. Putting food in our body is something we will do forever (without stating the plain obvious).

So it’s crazy to think that something so important to our health and well being, something that we will do forever is one of the things that many people will not willingly try to educate themselves about. Think about that for a minute! 🤯

Social calendars, work calendars, training plans and financial planning are all things that many people do. They do them well and see the benefits. Nutrition planning is an area where many people fail. If we all took a little more time and put more effort into this area then so many more aspects of your life will benefit.

Spend some time to educate yourself on nutrition.

Start to track and teach yourself what is a good nutrition plan for you as an individual. (You don’t have to track forever and eat out of plastic tubs btw)

This week is “Test Week” at UP Tilehurst. This if Where we use Inbody to measure our members body composition and hold two different fitness tests. Both can but done if relevant to your training and goals.

⚫️Max Chin Ups
⚫️Max Press Ups
⚫️(optional) Barbell OH Press


Best effort to compete 8 stations. A mix of cardio, body weight and weights.

We will hold these every 8 weeks to give our members something to progress and aim for. Seeing improvements is extremely motivating!

HATE - it’s a strong word but can easily be turned around into a more positive - LOVE

Hate can sometimes be used when we actually FEAR things or scenarios. Once we can navigate those fears or anxieties we can turn HATE into something we LOVE!

There’s lots of fears or “hate” when it comes to fitness/training/the gym and here’s how you can flip some of these fears:

⚫️The unknown
⚫️Starting a new journey/plan
⚫️Goals seem to far away
⚫️Gym environment

Nothing you ever started or anyone you ever met for the first time were known to you. But I bet you love lots of people and lots of things you tried for the first time.

If you’re not happy in your current situation and you’re consistently doing the same things or routine when you train then you HAVE to change something. Or stay the same.

A new plan, goal or journey could take not just your health and fitness places but literally take YOU to new places. we have many members who would never have thought about climbing mountains but they do now.

Don’t fear the end goal as that will always evolve with you. It’s never ending. It’s the daily commitment towards something and enjoying that which is just as important.

If you hate the gym environment you’re at the wrong place. I’ve mentioned before, you need to find a community that welcomes you and eases your anxieties, helps and supports you. Just as we do.

Failure. There’s never failure in fitness. Just progression and lessons on the ever evolving journey to your goals. Which ultimately is living a healthy and fulfilling life… everything in between are just stepping stones to that.

Well training may not pay your bills but you have two choices…

1- sit on sofa feeling unfit and skint

2 - go and train/exercise and feel a lot better and rational about the month ahead.

You can choose to accept it or go CRUSH blue Monday!

The environment that you train in can have a huge impact on your progress and goals. A stifled gym with run down dirty equipment is hardly the place that is going to motivate you. If the gym doesn’t care about its surroundings, then chances are they won’t care much for you.

Don’t get me wrong there are some really cool training spaces that have minimal equipment, rugged concrete style looks and not exactly luxury facilities. But that is what they are trying to achieve and therefore will attract a person that wants that environment, moreover they will care about you because you will be on their same level.

If you are trying to fit yourself into environment and it just isn’t for you then switch it up and find the right space. It could be a boutique style gym with all the luxuries. A warehouse gym which focuses on groups and functional training or your standard 24 hour mainstream gym. Whatever keeps you motivated that is the right space for you.

Unfortunately though this time of year people flock to the cheapest gyms with all the will and enthusiasm they can muster. Then the gyms fail them. No interest in numbers in the door i.e., overcrowding. Leave you to “workout” without direction. Ignore your safety (related to both of the above). Then what happens is you won’t be training come February because you chose the wrong space and were let down. You won’t see progress and your motivation will wane.

Our training facilities may not be for you but what is guaranteed at our facilities are:
• Attention detail
• Cleanliness
• Serviced equipment
• Structured sessions
• No over crowding
• Workouts that get you results
• Supportive community
• Coaches and a company that cares about its members
• Track record in giving members amazing transformations

If you need to change your environment, then do it now before you lose the enthusiasm to train at all. Don’t be let down by the wrong training space and make a change. Choose us if the above sounds right for you or don’t if it doesn’t.

It’s that funny week in January where for many people we aren’t quite sure what’s going on, or what just happened.

I’m 44 years old now and every year I have the same strange feeling in the first week in January. Some people are full of beans with all the enthusiasm of a baby gazelle but most people, like me, are wondering Why, why, WHY? Why did I eat all that? Why did I drink all that and why don’t I know what day it is. LOL?!

It’s a time of huge excess which leaves us feeling a bit weird in January and I think it’s this that’s makes us make NY resolutions. Do you think if you breezed through December without overeating, excessive alcohol or being less focussed on pretty much anything that’s important that you would NEED to make New Years resolutions? I think not. I think they are triggered by the low or guilty feeling of the December excess (which it is now pretty much a month). I certainly don’t think in September “bloody hell I need to change my life and make some random decisions.

So here’s my NY resolution which I don’t need to think about until December… I’m going to stop being a T**T in December!!! There you go it’s out there so I’m bound to stick to it now.

In all seriousness though, the above is just something for you to ponder. I don’t have any profound advice for what you should do in December but I do think we all need to consider the Xmas excess and is it really worth it? We get caught up with adverts, marketing, pressure and old habits/routines passed down to us. Sadly though I think we are probably worse than our parents who had cheese hedgehogs, mini sausages on cocktail sticks, snowball (advocate) and lemon and orange sugar coated jellies!

It’s Friday 6th Jan and the coming Monday is typically the Monday a lot of you will start your fitness plans (now you know what day it is).

If that’s you then make sure you start. Make sure you have a goal. Make it mean something. And make sure you’re still forging towards it on 30th December this year so you don’t feel like sh*te ever again!

Now the serious note:

Your goal should be a journey of health and fitness that never ends with ever evolving goals. As your body and mind develops then so will your aspirations.

Enjoy the process and enjoy your life.
