Active Sports Massage is now permanently closed.

I would like to a say huge thank you to all the clients who have booked appointments and visited my couch over the last 5 years and made it possible for me to start a business, keep it going and be able do something I love. It's been an amazing journey.
The story isn't over though, just changing and I will still be providing Soft Tissue therapy at See you there. 🙂

Last treatment of the morning done. Let the weekend begin! 🙂

My penultimate week at Active Sport Massage has been a very busy one. There is only one more week to go now before Active Sports Massage closes it's doors.

The last few weeks since returning after lockdown have kept me on my toes and out of mischief. And even though I won't be working at The Funky Barnet anymore after 29th May, I will still be treating and providing sports massage therapy at the amazing facility that is

I look forward to seeing you there. 👍

Hi all, I have been trying to find the right words to write this, but it is with mixed emotions that I need to share with you the news that although I will be re-opening for business on 13th April, this will only be temporary, and I will be permanently closing my treatment room at The Funky Barnet on Saturday 29th May.
There have been a few changes over the last year, and I have come to the decision to stop working at The Funky Barnet.

It has been an absolute privilege and joy to work with every person who has visited my couch here, and I am grateful for the support and trust you have shown me over the last 5 years.
I will still be working as a Sports Massage therapist at GoPerform in Reading, so I'm not quite retiring my  hands and elbows just yet! 😉

If you would like to book an appointment before I close my doors on the 29th May please get in touch and I will do my best to get you booked in.

Good morning! So it looks like we are tentatively working towards a re-opening date of 12th April. Yay!

As we get closer to that date and get confirmation that it will be going ahead, I will be in touch to book in appointments.

Priority booking will go to those people who were booked in pre lockdown and those who have been in touch during. Fingers crossed, the couch will be back in action soon! 🙂🤞

Goodbye 2020. Hello 2021

Wishing everyone a happy new year and looking forward to a more positive 2021.

Thank you to all my clients for your continued support during 2020. It's been a tough and crazy year, but we made it through together.

Be happy, be kind and stay safe.

Following on from today's announcement that Berkshire will remain in tier 4, I will continue to be temporarily closed until further notice.
As frustrating as the current situation is, it is the right thing to do to protect us all.

I hope to be able to welcome everyone back soon.

In the meantime, should you need any help or advise regarding injury, pain or exercises please get in touch.

*** Lockdown update ***

I can confirm that following on from the goverment's announcement on Saturday and as per the guidelines set out, I will sadly have to close my business again from Thursday 5th November until 2nd December.

For those of you currently booked in during the lockdown period, I will be in contact with you to re-arrange your appointments for when I re-open.

In the meantime, I'd like to to say thank you for your continued support and patience during these difficult times.

Should you need any advise or support during the lockdown, please don't hesitate to get in touch with me either via my mobile on 07789644174, or via email [email protected].

It has been amazing being back at work over the last few months, and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone for coming to see me since I re-opened. However, you've all kept me so busy that I'm now ready for a break 🙂
I will now be away until Tuesday 20th October.
If you would like to book in for when I get back, please get in touch and I will respond as soon as I can. Thanks! Petra 08/08/2020

A bit of Friday fun. 🙂
Have a good weekend all!

First day of week 2 done and getting into the swing of things now. Although it's not difficult to do when all your clients have been very supportive of the new measures in place and have only brought positivity with them. After the initial worry of how everything would work in this new Covid-19 world I'm happy to say it's great to be back. 👍🙂❤
@ Active Sports Massage - Reading

1st day back

We have been given the green light by The Sports Massage Association to return to work and I'm pleased to announce that I will be back providing sports massage therapy from Monday 20th July.

Over the next week I will be in contact with those clients who were booked in before we went into lockdown, and those who have contacted me recently.

Please be aware that you will find new Covid-19 measures in place to keep us all safe.

To book an appointment, please call 07789644174 or send an email to [email protected]

I look forward to getting back to work. See you all soon! 😁

Following on from last night's news that massage therapist will be able to return to work, I'm pleased to say that I will be back to treating again very soon.
I'm currently waiting for my professional association to conclude their review of the government guidelines to ensure that I am Covid-19 compliant and meet my Insurance requirements when re-opening .
I will keep you updated you with more information over the next few days and will confirm an opening date as soon as I can.

Thank you for your continued understanding and support. We are almost there folks. 🙂

Like a lot of people, I go through phases of not sleeping very well, or even not at all some nights. Last night was one of those nights. Normally I lament the loss of my sleep...a lot. However this morning I thought I'd try something different and decided to go for an early walk. My reward was this beautiful and tranquil walk along that has left me feeling quite refreshed and ready to face the day. I might crash out for a nap later on this afternoon, but i'm so glad that for once I've been able to turn my lack of sleep into a positive. Trust me, this is not always the case. My long suffering better half can testify to this. 🙂.
So however much sleep you had last night I hope you all have a wonderful day.
I'm off to hunt down some breakfast!

Last session of the day. There have been some amazing speakers taking part in Therapy Live.
Looking forward to watching the recording of the presentations I couldn't attend today. 🙂👍🏻

Currently looking at Therapy Live's Agenda trying to decide which sessions I will be watching/listening to tomorrow. So many great lectures to choose from!

Hi all,

Following on from the goverment's announcement yesterday, the guidelines regarding 'close contact professions' are clear that sports massage therapists as a profession are currently NOT permitted to practise any hands-on or face to face treatments and will not be able to re-open on 4th July.

I shall therefore remain closed until further notice.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you need any advise or guidance on sore muscles or sports injuries. 💪🏃‍♀️

Thank you all for your continued patience and support, and hope to be able to see you all soon. 🤞

Hi everyone,

Following the goverment's update at lunchtime today it's great to know that further businesses will be able to open from the 4th July.
Unfortunately what's not clear is whether or not Soft Tissue Therapists will be able to return to work.

Therefore at this time I'm still not able to confirm an opening date and take any bookings. ☹
I'm sorry it's not better news, as a few of you have been in contact with me over the last few weeks to see when I'll be back.

Rest assured that I have been working hard to make sure that I am following the re-opening guidelines and have all the relevant PPE in place to be able to return safely as soon as we are given the green light to open.

In the meantime I will be waiting for further updates from my professional body and insurers to find out when I can get back to massaging all those aching muscles. 🤞

Thank you all for your ongoing support.

Hi all, a quick update to let you all know what's happening. Unfortunately there still isn't a date yet for when soft tissue therapists will be able to return to work.
Whilst we wait for the green light to return to work, I am busy working my way through my professional body's preliminary guidelines and protocols to ensure that I am ready to open as soon as it's safe to do so.
I am available via phone/video call/email for any advise on stretches/exercises and any injury management whilst we go through these difficult times.
Contact no: 07789644174.

Round 2 for today's Functional Fascia Webinars. Looking forward to this one.

Catching up on last week's Functional Fascia CPD seminar before tonight's webinar on shoulder and neck. 🙂

Active Sports Massage - Reading

I am missing you all, but for now I am continuing to follow government guidelines and will remain closed for face-to-face appointments.

However, I am still available over the phone or via video call to provide advise for any aches and pains you might need help with during the lockdown. You can call me on 07789 644174, or email me at [email protected]

Stay well everyone and I look forward to seeing you all again when the time is right. 💙

Ready for some more CPD this evening

Happy Easter everyone. 🐰🐣

Superficial Fascia and Adipose Tissue. What are we touching?

Another great bit of CPD tonight to gain a better understanding of what it is we are touching as manual therapists and what effects we are having on the body structures through our hands on work with people. Fascinating stuff. One of the least known about and poorly understood parts of the body, yet vital to all therapists of every kind

Covid-19 update.

Hi all, today I have made the difficult, but necessary decision to stop treating people for the foreseeable future as per government guidelines and following the advise of my professional body. I also feel this is the right thing to for all of our well being and health.

During this time if anyone would like any advise, please feel free to contact me via phone on 07789 644 174, or email at [email protected]

These are difficult times for all of us, but I am determined to come out of this as strong as I can. 🙂 Hope to see you all at the other end.
Stay well everyone. 16/03/2020

In addition to the above standard practises, I am also cleaning door handles, stair banisters and any other surfaces you may come into contact with antibacterial products.

Please be advised that hand washing facilities / anti-bacterial hand gel are available for all clients.

If you feel unwell with a dry cough or fever, or suspect you may have been in contact with someone who has the Covid-19 virus, please do not attend your appointment. I am more than happy to re-book your appointment.

Amazing course at Jing today - Myofascial Release for Fibromyalgia. Learning that to do effective bodywork, you don't always have to go down the deep tissue route. It's amazing to be able to work slowly, be still and achieve results as you quieten down the central nervous system and promote relaxation in the soft tissues.

All ready to massage in the massage tent.

One very hot and sweaty Parkrun done! Last year I fell out of love with running and really wasn't enjoying it. I was always thinking I should be able to do better. This year I've decided not to care about timing and to just get out there and do it. I take each run as it comes and if I have to walk because I'm having a bad run I don't beat myself up anymore. I've taking the pressure off and I'm enjoying my runs again. So if you are struggling with running, leave the garmin/strava etc at home and just get out there and enjoy it at whichever pace feels good. Exercise should be fun, not torture! 😃🏃‍♀️

My Story

Hi there. I am an experienced Soft Tissue Massage Therapist and I am passionate about working with anyone who is experiencing any musculoskeletal pain, whether it be through injury or just the daily stresses of life. Whatever your needs are, my aim is always to tailor your treatment to you, so that you can walk out feeling better and happier.

I qualified as a BTEC level 5 Soft Tissue & Remedial Massage Therapist at the Oxford School of Sports Massage in November 2015. Prior to becoming a therapist I worked in Telecoms, and I can honestly say changing careers is the best decision I ever made, I just wish I’d done it sooner! I love working with people from all backgrounds, and everybody is different, they all have different requirements and goals which can make my work challenging, but very rewarding.

What is Sports Massage?
Sports massage combines soft tissue massage with specific techniques to treat areas of muscle tension and fatigue within the body. It helps to improve muscle health and restore functionality. It is suitable for anyone suffering from general aches and pains, as well as anyone who participates in sports on a regular basis.
For those who partake in sport, it can be very beneficial before and/or after exercise to speed up recovery time and enhance muscle performance.

Benefits of Sports Massage
• Aids in relief of chronic pain such as repetitive strain injury, back and shoulder pain or any postural issues.
• Helps to improve flexibility, mobility and range of movement in joints.
• Helps to aid in the recovery of sports injuries, competition preparation and maintenance.
• Regular massages can also help to prevent serious injuries by catching any muscle imbalance early.
• Aids general relaxation and wellbeing

I use a combination of the following techniques during treatment:
• Soft Tissue Massage
• Muscle Energy Techniques
• Soft Tissue Release
• Neuromuscular Therapy
• Positional Release
• Myofascial Release

What to expect from your first appointment as a new client:
I recommend that all new clients book a 60 minute appointment for their first visit. Your first appointment will include a confidential assessment which includes:
• Full history of any injury or condition, plus other relevant medical information.
• Postural assessment
• Special tests to measure any weaknesses and/or any range of motion restrictions

Based upon the assessment, a tailored treatment will be provided if deemed appropriate.

There are certain circumstances during which massage may not be appropriate. Below are listed some of the most common contraindications, however there can be many more. If you are unsure whether or not sports massage is suitable for you, please contact me before making an appointment and I will be more than happy to discuss any concerns further with you. All enquiries are dealt with confidentially.

• Cancer.
• Acute Trauma: Open Wounds, Burns, Fractures, Muscle Ruptures, Tendon Ruptures, Haematoma, Contusions.
• Inflammatory Disorders: Bursitis, Periostitis, Gout, Rheumatoid Arthritis.
• Circulatory Disorders: Hemophilia, Thrombosis, Varicose Veins, Hypertension.
