My Story
Hi there. I am an experienced Soft Tissue Massage Therapist and I am passionate about working with anyone who is experiencing any musculoskeletal pain, whether it be through injury or just the daily stresses of life. Whatever your needs are, my aim is always to tailor your treatment to you, so that you can walk out feeling better and happier.
I qualified as a BTEC level 5 Soft Tissue & Remedial Massage Therapist at the Oxford School of Sports Massage in November 2015. Prior to becoming a therapist I worked in Telecoms, and I can honestly say changing careers is the best decision I ever made, I just wish I’d done it sooner! I love working with people from all backgrounds, and everybody is different, they all have different requirements and goals which can make my work challenging, but very rewarding.
What is Sports Massage?
Sports massage combines soft tissue massage with specific techniques to treat areas of muscle tension and fatigue within the body. It helps to improve muscle health and restore functionality. It is suitable for anyone suffering from general aches and pains, as well as anyone who participates in sports on a regular basis.
For those who partake in sport, it can be very beneficial before and/or after exercise to speed up recovery time and enhance muscle performance.
Benefits of Sports Massage
• Aids in relief of chronic pain such as repetitive strain injury, back and shoulder pain or any postural issues.
• Helps to improve flexibility, mobility and range of movement in joints.
• Helps to aid in the recovery of sports injuries, competition preparation and maintenance.
• Regular massages can also help to prevent serious injuries by catching any muscle imbalance early.
• Aids general relaxation and wellbeing
I use a combination of the following techniques during treatment:
• Soft Tissue Massage
• Muscle Energy Techniques
• Soft Tissue Release
• Neuromuscular Therapy
• Positional Release
• Myofascial Release
What to expect from your first appointment as a new client:
I recommend that all new clients book a 60 minute appointment for their first visit. Your first appointment will include a confidential assessment which includes:
• Full history of any injury or condition, plus other relevant medical information.
• Postural assessment
• Special tests to measure any weaknesses and/or any range of motion restrictions
Based upon the assessment, a tailored treatment will be provided if deemed appropriate.
Contraindications:
There are certain circumstances during which massage may not be appropriate. Below are listed some of the most common contraindications, however there can be many more. If you are unsure whether or not sports massage is suitable for you, please contact me before making an appointment and I will be more than happy to discuss any concerns further with you.
