Brilliant class this morning Rachel - thank you. I think something might just have clicked into place about the power of breathing properly and in tune with the pace of the exercises. 😀
Thank you for a fab pilates class tonight Rachel. Even though it was across the internet you still gave us lots of encouragement and worked us hard. Looking forward to the next class.
Had my second virtual Pilates class this morning and thoroughly enjoyed it and expecting the muscle reminder tomorrow! Lovely to see Rachel and others from the class and looking forward to next week.
What a session today on the equipment. Who knew I could put myself into so many different positions? Thank you Sarah, Rachel and Fiona for guiding me through it, and for showing me what just how good Pilates is!!!😀😀
I arrived at class yesterday with a painful hip due to overworking it whilst moving my son into his new flat . I had aggravated the wear and tear in the joint. I explained to Rachel and I have no idea how she did it but today I am totally pain free. She’s a little miracle worker.

World Osteoporosis Day is observed every year on October 20th. The day is dedicated to raising awareness of the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of osteoporosis.

Osteoporosis is a disease in which the density and strength of the bone are reduced. Osteoporosis affects over 200 million people in the world. This is according to the International Osteoporosis Foundation. Because of its prevalence, osteoporosis is considered a significant public health concern. In the United States and Europe, 30% of all menopausal women have osteoporosis.

There is no cure for osteoporosis. Once bone loss occurs, it’s not possible to get it back. This is why prevention is the best medicine. One of the best ways to prevent osteoporosis is to get adequate amounts of calcium. Food that is rich in calcium include:

Low-fat dairy products
Almonds and almond milk
Dark leafy green vegetables
Canned salmon or sardines with bones
Calcium-fortified orange juice

Another way to prevent osteoporosis is to practice weight-bearing activities. Getting enough Vitamin D is also essential. Here at PTM Studio we encourage you to keep your Pilates practice up to assist with the slowing down of the deterioration of this.

On the second Thursday in October, World Sight Day challenges everyone to focus on vision health, blindness, and vision impairment. The day is both a call to action and a drive for awareness concerning vision care around the globe. Prevention of disease helps to reduce blindness and vision impairment. Beyond prevention, World Sight Day seeks to improve recognition and access to care for those who need services.

When did you last have an eye test or check up? We encourage you to go.🤓

On October 12th of each year, World Arthritis Day spreads awareness about the most prevalent disease in the world. This awareness day highlights the need for early diagnosis and treatment.

A total of 350 million people throughout the world have the disease. Arthritis and related conditions account for more than $156 billion in lost wages and medical expenses each year. The disease also results in one million hospitalizations a year. Arthritis is commonly known as joint inflammation and there are over 100 different types of arthritis. The two most common types include osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. While there is no cure for this disease, treatments are available. Doctors prescribe painkillers, anti-inflammatory medications, and injections called corticosteroids to treat arthritis. Physical exercise and physiotherapy can also help reduce pain and inflammation. For some, surgery, such as joint replacement or joint fusion, is the only option.

Here at PTM Studio we know only too well that Pilates helps to reduce inflammation by toning all your muscles and decompressing your joints. Another good reason to keep your practise up. 😉

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

If you’ve never had a mammogram, the time is now, why not make an appointment during breast cancer awareness month 2021? You can take a friend or family member with you and afterward you’ll have peace of mind.

Maybe you could make a donation?

Why not wear pink to the Studio or at work sometime this month, knowing that you are supporting this awareness. It can be anything socks, a t-shirt, fitness pants or even just your underwear? Please wear clothes on top if you choose the latter. 🙏

Yesterday Insta, WhatsApp & FB went down for 5 + hours. We are now back yippee.

Yesterday the 4th Oct was National Golfers day.

National Golf Lover’s Day on October 4th provides an opportunity for golf enthusiasts to swing down the fairway at least one more time during the season.

While celebrating the day, you might notice it is sometimes also referred to as National Golf Day. Since 1952, the PGA has held a charity event each year for National Golf Day, which is held on different days each year.

The modern game of golf may have originated in 15th century Scotland. However, it is unclear and very much debated as to its ancient origins.

The world’s oldest golf tournament is The Open Championship. Its first tournament played on October 17, 1860, at Prestwick Golf Club in Ayrshire, Scotland. Golf in the United States:

Here at PTM Studio, we know how much Pilates can improve your swing – but do you?

Golf requires balance and a good solid stance✅
Golf requires flexibility and mobility✅
Golf requires good rotation.✅

Most of the professional golfers on the PGA TOUR are exercising to improve their bodies and their games, and many of them (Tiger Woods, Annika Sorenstam, Rich Beam) are using Pilates. Golfers of all levels find that consistent Pilates practice improves their games and reduces pain and injuries.

Wednesday 29th Sep is a day to celebrate reducing food & waste.

Stop Food Loss and waste, for the people & the planet. Reducing food losses and waste is essential in a world where the number of people affected by hunger has been slowly on the rise since 2014, and tons and tons of edible food are lost and/or wasted every day.

Globally, around 14 percent of food produced is lost between harvest and retail, while an estimated 17 percent of total global food production is wasted (11 percent in households, 5 percent in the food service and 2 percent in retail).

The International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste is an opportunity to call to action both the public (national or local authorities) and the private sector (businesses and individuals), to prioritise actions and move ahead with innovation to reduce food loss and waste towards restoring and building back better and resilient-ready, food systems.

Take action, start something. Stop food loss and waste. For the people. For the planet.

World Tourism Day on September 27th shines a spotlight on the benefits of tourism. Besides adding economic value to communities, tourism adds social, political, and cultural value. In essence, tourism helps all countries to build a better future.

Tourism is big business. In 2018, tourism contributed $8.8 trillion dollars to the global economy. Over recent years, travel and tourism have been the second-fasting growing sector in the world. The tourism industry also added 319 million jobs. Despite the amount of jobs tourism creates, there is still work to do. Industry experts believe there is potential for tourism to create even more jobs, especially for women, youth, and individuals in rural areas.

By the year 2030, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), an agency of the United Nations, hopes to implement policies that will further advance sustainable tourism. In turn, tourism will create jobs and promote local cultures and products.

Here at PTM Studio we are all loving hearing some of you are travelling again, from as close as France and as far away as Antigua. We wish you all safe travels and long may our tourism improve worldwide.

NATIONAL GIRLS’ NIGHT

Grab your besties, on September 22nd – it’s National Girls’ Night!

National Girls’ Night encourages women to gather with their best girlfriends for a night in to relax, recharge, and foster meaningful connections. Of course, there are many ways to celebrate a Girls’ Night. Whether you stay in or go out, the night invites women to reconnect and celebrate life together. Choose to cook together or seek out your favourite restaurant. Enjoy a book club together or a movie night. Catch a game or play a game while catching up with each other. The celebration is all about women disconnecting from the stresses of everyday life. What’s better than engaging with besties for an evening of social self-care?

In 2018, Ketel One Botanical founded National Girls’ Night, held annually on September 22nd, to celebrate the importance of slowing down and taking a well-deserved time-out in today’s fast-paced world. When celebrating Girls’ Night In, Ketel One Botanical reminds you to please drink responsibly.

How will you celebrate Girls’ Night? How about - A cuppa? A walk? A movie? A meal out? – We would love to hear from you and see your photo’s?

On September 20th, Pepperoni Pizza Day recognizes the most popular pizza ever created. The day celebrates the pizza enjoyed by young and old alike.
While pizza comes with many different toppings, pepperoni is the single most popular pizza. Whether you like your pizza Chicago Style or New York Style, thin and crispy or deep dish, top it with pepperoni!
According to legend, Raffaele Esposito created the first pizza in June of 1889. The Queen of Italy, Margherita of Savoy, inspired the pizza maker so much, he created the pie-shaped delicacy. In the queen’s honour, he named it Pizza Margherita and topped the pizza with tomatoes, basil, and mozzarella. The colours represent the Italian flag.

Since then, pizza has evolved. It includes a multitude of toppings from anchovies and pineapple to sausage and bacon. However, pepperoni remains the most popular.
Italian-Americans developed the ever-popular topping through time-honoured sausage-making techniques. Seasoned pork and beef sausage are smoked and cured. Once the product is ready to be sliced, it’s placed on a delicious pie and baked.

We would love to hear - should pineapple be on a pizza or not?? 🤷

Today is:
NATIONAL CELIAC DISEASE AWARENESS DAY

Let’s give a huge shout out to all the Celiac’s we know & love.

Every year on September 13th, National Celiac Disease Awareness Day encourages us to support those with the auto-immune disease affecting 3 million people.

Those with celiac disease avoid gluten due to the immune response that damages the villi in the small intestine. Over time, the damage prevents the absorption of nutrients into the body. Grains such as wheat, barley, rye, and even some oat products contain gluten. The destruction is irreversible and the only known treatment is a carefully controlled diet.

National Celiac Awareness Day promotes the importance of diagnosis as well as bringing resources and support to those who have already been diagnosed. Alternative meal preparation, diet suggestions, and celiac support groups help families provide nutritional lifestyles.
