When will club runs be starting again?
HI.
Im looking for some help with my 3.5 gauge live steam Stephensons Rocket Set.
Any help gratefully appreciated.
A Tender and two gas tanks required.
For a cold dreary afternoon, it sure was busy!
Huge thanks to Graham who mended the transformer and fixed the gears so my Dad could be reunited with his Hornby set he bought in 1936. Thank you for making his day.
Merry Christmas 🎄 what an awesome morning 😉👍🏻
From today's public running
Another busy afternoon. Very humid but the breeze on the trains was a nice break! Barbie enjoyed her ride, but was a little miffed traveling cattle class.
Hello, I have a 3 1/2 in guage Britannia Loco and tender. It has sat on a shelf for 40 years and has not run. Do you know anyone who can get a boiler certificate and give it an overhaul? Matt
Great family fun! Friendly staff 👍😄
Just a post with some of today's better shots taken at the Bank Holiday running day - I literally have hundreds more - Drop me a message and I will happily send all photos I took today.
Another mega busy afternoon on the trains. Loved the Model T pickup and the German diesel.
Super busy afternoon. Had a few rides, then a walk round the park to let the queues go down a bit then more rides. Some great trains on today.

The Reading Society of Model Engineers established 100 years ago. Based at Prospect Park, 'Public Running' days are on the first Sunday of every month. We have a Young Engineers club and we cover a limited number of birthday parties (pre-booked)

Established in 1910, the society existed until the outbreak of WW2 in 1939, but was re-formed in 1948. It has been on its present site for over 40 years on land leased from the local authority. We have a well equipped club house and workshop facilities. With over 150 members there are many experienced people to share knowledge and to advise newcomers. Regular meetings in autumn and winter months c

NEW DATE FOR PUBLIC RUNNING

Following on from the government announcement on social distancing, it's sad to say that our signals have to stay on red and we now look to the first Sunday in August to see you all again.
Hopefully, then we shall be in a position to start things up on a regular basis, and in the meantime, we shall continue on the upkeep and maintenace of the railway premises.
Thank you all for your patience and we hope you and your families and friends all stay well.

OUR TARGET FOR PUBLIC RUNNING IS 4th JULY

We have been doing a lot of work at the railway to make sure that we shall be ready to see you all on 4th July.
The double footbridge has been repainted and the wooden walkway replaced. That was a big job, we found out ! The club house kitchen area is being completely updated with replacement flooring, tiling, plumbing, and cupboards / worktops. New lighting has been installed following a complete electrical upgrade last year.
In the meantime, the grass, plants and bushes have burst into life to give our gardeners plenty to do, and they are also creating a wild flower area to encourage wildlife.

There is still a lot to complete but we are confident all will be well in time to welcome you and your children on the 4th July.
Meanwhile, stay safe and we shall beat the health challenges.

WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE RAILWAY ?

We do appreciate the messages regarding our forthcoming plans and would like to share our thoughts with everyone.

You may see over coming weeks, various activities at the site being performed by volunteers under the Covid rules. They will be spending time on track and rolling stock maintenance and repairs, buildings improvements, and general gardening upkeep in anticipation of the all clear to resume social activities. There will also be a number of steam engines needing their boiler safety tests before they can be running on the passenger trains. In the meantime, nature carries on and as shown, the daffodils are out !

It's been lovely to see children returning to school, as we're sure parents agree, and let's all hope for better times to come. In line with the Government's plan, we should in theory, be able to have SUNDAY 4th JULY as a date to plan towards for our first Public Running Day and this gives us something positive to work towards. We can't get carried away though as all plans are of course, SUBJECT TO THE SCIENCE and Government rulings.
We shall keep you advised and also post some more photos on the activities . All the best to you all.

VERY BEST WISHES TO EVERYONE

We've missed seeing you all at the railway and would love to be running our trains for public days, birthday parties and Santas' visit. It's not been possible since March but let's look to a brighter future and we wish you all well for Christmas and the New Year.
Our engines are used to posing for photos, but they're getting a little lazy and need to work again !

[09/24/20]   LATEST FROM THE RAILWAY

Many thanks for all the contacts over recent times regarding our plans and especially for the usual weekend visit of Santa.

We've continually looked long and hard at ways we can reopen the railway to everyone and especially at how we might arrange for Santa to welcome the children in absolute safety.

The latest government directives, however, have dictated the way ahead for us, because we cannot plan with any certainty. We have, therefore, made the decision that we cannot go ahead with any activities, and this will probably take us through to the New Year.

We are so sorry for this; the club members really enjoy sharing their hobby and we know how much visits mean to the children. Like so many other similar organizations, though, we do not want to be a centre of risk, and much prefer to help everyone stay safe.

We wish you all well, and do hope that the return to school is bringing some relief to everyone. In the meantime, we shall be keeping the site in order, ready for better times.

16/07/2020

WHEN CAN WE SEE YOU AGAIN

Many of you have asked for our plans for the near future, but like all similar venues, we have to wait for government directives, especially with our challenges for social distancing. This means that, sadly, our popular public running days and parties remain on hold until further notice.

In the meantime, we are looking at allowing members to visit for the purpose of engine boiler testing and general running on the tracks, but with very limited numbers by prior arrangemnent and with strict distancing rules.

If cars are seen in our car park, therefore, it will be for these visits or for site maintenace and gardening volunteers.

We do need to keep everyone safe, and although we can't give public rides at present, we shall keep you posted of developments and really look forward to seeing you all again to share our hobby.

ANOTHER DAY AT HOME

We're all counting the days inside, and however everyone is filling time, we just hope you are all safe and well.
We know it's hard working from home, and especially so when young children are with you as many of you are aware. Around now is that time each month when we would be inviting you all to our public running day, but sadly, we can't.
So, as we all keep saying, 'stay safe and keep smiling. A few pictures are here to remind us of good times last year and encourage us all on the way forward.

[03/17/20]   OBSERVING GOVERNMENT GUIDELINES

It is with regret, although in line with countless others following government guidelines, that we have to close operations at our railway forthwith and until further notice.
This includes public running afternoons and birthday parties, and we shall be in touch with those who have booked them in due course.
We know how much children and adults enjoy their visits but we're all in this together and wish you all the very best. Many thanks to everyone for your support.
