Morning all. Tomorrow morning, around 11.50am (subject to change) by beer Morrisman will be featured on Channel 4 Sunday Brunch.
A friend of mine shared these photos of Abingdon Traditional Morris from the 1970s and earlier. I thought they might be of interest.
Cheerio Kennet Morris. It's been great fun dancing and watching you over the years. However we are moving to Sunny Sufolk this week so it looks like our opportunities to watch you will be very limited from now on.

Hope that you manage to get back to dancing again soon.

Mike
We are still here, mostly... We are meeting weekly via Zoom. Tonight, we had 21 members via Reading, Maidenhead, Bracknell, Yateley, Bournemouth and CYPRUS!
Thanks guys. As ever the evening was absolutely average 😊
Hello, who do i contact regarding a booking for a school May fair? Thank you in advance.
Photos from wassailing at Tutt's Clump Cider today.
Love it
Although I haven't danced with the side for some years, according to young Master DeCourcy I'm still a, "Country member". While most of you were attending a wedding oop north on September 14th, I was celebrating my own nuptials in south Somerset so here's a photo as none of you have ever seen me
Marquee on the Ham closed all weekend due to weather, all shows diverted to other venues.

The most runcible Morris side in the country. Practices Monday nights at 8:00pm from 13th October 2014 to 28 April 2014 (and after at The Bell & Bottle, Shinfield from 10:00pm https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bell-and-Bottle-Shinfield-Reading/151945801488805, ) The first two weeks will be "taster" sessions for those that want to see if Kennet and morris is for them.

Lockdown has some benefits as I've been able to do more research about Kennet's origins - and our forefathers, the Wargrave Morris Men ,for inclusion in the latest update of our Foolish History. And you may have time to read it!

The Morris Federation

Very saddened to hear today from Mike Dommett that Marguerite Dommett died peacefully in her sleep on 15 September – she will be remembered by so many of us as Roy Dommett’s almost constant companion – coming along to events, taking an interest in all of us dancers, cooking vast meals when hosting teams and making costumes including the famous Andy Pandy outfit that Roy wore. She was always there to listen to and support young (and not so young) dancers and musicians – and the (Women’s) Morris Federation. Our thoughts are with all the family. Many thanks to Beth Neill for the photos.

This weekend we would normally be enjoying the Rushcart weekend basking in the Saddleworth Sunshine. This was our first official visit in 1996 - and we've come back nearly every year despite it! Thanks to Saddleworth Rushcart Lads for wonderful memories, even though this year will be memorable for all the wrong reasons.

The Morris Ring

A statement from the Morris Ring in conjunction with our fellow Morris Organisations.

"The Joint Morris Organisations (JMO) wholly condemns and disassociates themselves from the sentiments expressed in an article recently published on a nationalist website. We hope the entire morris community would join us in rejecting the divisive narrative put forward by this article.

Morris is a unique cultural tradition of which we should be rightly proud. However, we will never support a divisive narrative which seeks to put our tradition beyond certain groups.

We want people from all races and backgrounds to share in this pride and not be made to feel unwelcome or uncomfortable by any element of a performance or the community"

The Mayor of Reading

Following the shocking and horrific attack that took place in the Forbury Gardens yesterday evening, my thoughts and deepest sympathies are with the victims and their families.

I would like to offer my heartfelt condolences to those affected and we at Reading Council offer our continued support to our heroic emergency services. Flags on the Civic Offices will be flown at half-mast from today and for the rest of the week out of respect to those who were injured and lost their lives in this senseless attack.

I hope you will join me and the leader of the Council, Cllr Brock in paying our respects to the victims and their families in a minutes silence tomorrow morning at 10am. To maintain social distancing guidelines we will mark this privately behind closed doors, however, you will be able to join us digitally via the Reading Council page at the following link -www.facebook.com/ReadingCouncil

Kennet and the Morris world lost Clive Allen, a truly wonderful character, last night 25 May 2020. Our thoughts and love go out to Denise, his family and many, many friends. Shocked is too small a description of how we feel. As it may be some time before we can celebrate his fully-lived life, we've put together this tribute to one corner of his world - some of our Kennet Morris memories. https://youtu.be/18fk6dv0YlA

About us

The Kennet Morris Men are based in the Reading area, although you can see us performing throughout Berkshire and South Oxfordshire - and even Hampshire. This season we will be performing dances in the distinctive styles that developed in the Cotswold villages of Adderbury, Bucknell, Ducklington, Fieldtown, Hinton in the Hedges, Oddington and Sherborne, and farther afield from the City of Lichfield and Upton upon Severn.
