LEN ‘fully understands’ reasons to cancel 2021 European Masters
The Dutch masters page has reported alleged reliable rumours that the LEN European Masters Championships taking place in Budapest, Hungary have been cancelled. LEN were supposed to have made a press release on Friday 2 April 2021 https://www.facebook.com/100063631685049/posts/131598792304510/?d=n
Good morning

I have an opportunity for all brave Masters swimmers who enjoy their outdoor cold water swims 😀

GLL are relaunching their outdoor swimming this Monday 29 March 2021 and they have the BBC and ITV coming to their 50m Hillingdon Outdoor Lido.

GLL will be offering **FREE** swims to any Reading Swimming Club Masters that would be available on Monday morning.

Bravery is a requirement as the lido is unheated.

If any of you are interested please email Carole Pendle [email protected] who can give further details regarding times etc

Swim England chief executive Jane Nickerson has received the disappointing news that the Government will not reverse the decision on over 18’s training with clubs when indoor pools reopen 😢 Hang in there guys!! 🙏🏻
Jane Nickerson has raised the concerns surrounding the delay in allowing over 18 club sessions with the Minister for Sport, Nigel Huddleston
Swim England are still waiting for further clarification on today’s announcement regarding the roadmap for the easing of lockdown restrictions and will bring you this information as soon as it is available
Sometimes when you look at the big picture, it’s not always very clear. Even little things you’re unable to see because you feel lost in the woods. Then you only have to make ONE decision and everything can suddenly become clearer. The flood water recedes and you’re able to see the pathway once more.

‘As you go through life, it’s a long long road, there will be joys and sorrows too’ - Just keep on rolling; you’ll get there in the end. Coach ^LM
BETTER NEW YEAR - 2021
Swim England have once again urged the Government to change its ‘frustrating ruling’ which bans over 18s from training with their clubs. With more over 18s impacted following the latest review of coronavirus tier restrictions, we will continue to fight to get them altered
*Good News!!* Now that the DCMS and Swim England officially gave the green light yesterday regarding a return to swimming for 18 and O’s we are *pleased to announce* that we will *re-start Masters* swimming sessions on *Sunday 6 December 2020 at Crosfields 6:45pm-8:00pm.* The sign up protocol will still remain in place for the foreseeable future and there will be a few changes to the procedures put in place which our communications officer will follow up with in due course. Please make sure you familiarise yourselves with all of these changes prior to your first session back - Lee

New swimming pool takes shape in Reading The Palmer Park pool is part of a £40M council investment in the town’s leisure facilities for the town.

Our major work to construct a modern 25 metre, 6-lane community pool at Palmer Park is coming along at pace, with the steel frame of the new pool set to start going up from the end of November.

Construction of the new pool is the next key milestone in our £40M investment in modern leisure facilities for the town, including delivering brand new pools, a modern leisure centre and improvements to existing leisure facilities.

The new community pool and facilities will open to the public in late 2022. At Palmer Park, in addition to the refurbishment of the existing stadium building, there will be:

🏊🏽 A new 25 metre, 6-lane community pool
🏋🏾‍♀️ A 100-station gym
🤹🏾 An activity zone for children with party rooms
🥪 And a new café and information hub.

‘Vibro Piling’ is currently taking place on-site, to lay the foundations of the new facilities. Vibro Stone Columns (VSCs) offers a sustainable alternative to deep foundations. This technique contains no cement, concrete or steel, considerably reducing the carbon footprint compared to other traditional forms of foundation making.

Following the construction of the pool frame, the next major event will be the installation of the new pool roof and the replacement of the existing stadium roof. This work will take place from the end of April 2022.

The roof replacement work will necessitate the unavoidable closure of the gym and indoor sports facilities for around 6 months, until autumn 2022.

The outside stadium, including the track, athletics and velodrome will continue to be in use. Temporary toilet facilities will be provided for the duration of the closure for use by stadium users and members of the public.

All gym users will be able to access alternative fitness facilities at other GLL run Reading leisure centres during this period.

We are delighted to announce construction begins on the new community pool at Palmer Park next week.

This is key milestone in our £40M investment in modern leisure facilities for the town, including delivering two brand new pools, a modern leisure centre and improvements to existing leisure facilities, by spring 2023.

At Palmer Park, in addition to the refurbishment of the existing stadium building, there will be:

🏊‍♀️ A modern 25 metre, 6-lane community pool
🏋🏾‍♂️ A 100-station gym with three studios
👨‍👩‍👦‍👦 An activity zone for children with party rooms
🥤 And a new café and information hub.

During the first phase, the area of work will be surrounded by Heras fencing for the safety of the public. The contractors working on the construction will aim to keep disruption to stadium, sports, clubs and park users to a minimum.

In phase 2, major work will begin on the construction of the new swimming pool, changes to the existing entrance and the creation of the new café and information hub space.

The new community pool and facilities at Palmer Park will open to the public in late 2022.

We anticipate work starting at the Rivermead site at the end of August after the Reading Festival.

At least being used for good to help out invaluable key workers

The exciting transformation of the former Arthur Hill swimming pool site into much needed housing for key workers begins today, with the demolition of some of the building which will allow the creation of 15 homes for those providing essential services within Reading. The facade of the building will be kept to retain the character and heritage of the building, and the homes will be low energy and environmentally friendly. http://rdguk.info/ArthurHilltransformation_eYLkH

Our plans to deliver modern new leisure facilities for Reading have moved forward today with the submission of two major planning applications.

Our commitment to provide modern and much-improved facilities for swimmers, keep fit and sports enthusiasts in Reading – including the building of two modern new swimming pools – is gaining momentum, after the unforeseen setback of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.

The planning applications provide a detailed spec of the proposed new facilities, which are set to include a 25m 8-lane competition pool with moveable floor and 300 spectator seats at Rivermead and a modern new 25 metre, six-lane community pool at Palmer Park. Last night was the annual Christmas meal for Reading Masters. 🥳

This year as the new ‘norm’ to many of us it was held virtually on Zoom, but many had still managed to visit Sweeney & Todd for their favourite pie 🥧 - other pies were available!

As well as a chance to let our hair down, enjoy great pies, it is also an opportunity to reflect on the achievements of the last twelve months and of course the presentation of The Katie Henderson Cup For Endeavour & Enthusiasm 🏆

The annual Masters award is to celebrate the memory of one of our amazing members. The trophy is to remember and celebrate 4 of Katie’s personality strengths: compassion, determination, positivity and enthusiasm.

This year the winner was Antonio Almaraz Serrano - well done and congratulations 👏👏👏🏆
