My feet (and the rest of me) have loved practicing yoga on this silky smooth (but rolling) floor of the ballroom of the Queen Mary 2; all the way to New York and back. The ocean waves have soothed my nervous system and honed my balance; love my tree at sea! Nearly home now though and looking forward to resuming my one to one classes in the studio next week 🌊 🌊 🌊

Very excited to begin translating The Samudra Manthana समुद्रमन्थन - or the ‘Churning of the Ocean of Milk’ next term. I don’t know much of this episode yet, only that it is central to the Vishnu Purana and involves gods, goddesses, demons and Śiva’s beautiful sea snake working together to plumb the ocean depths for amṛta - the elixir of immortality. What’s not to like! I have translated one verse so far:

‘The gods were without rest, and neither the desire for precious jewels nor fear of terrible poison prevented them from obtaining the nectar. Resolute ones do not cease in pursuit of their objectives’

~ I’ll take this thought as my New Year inspiration…

First steps on the ice in at least 25 years….turns out it is a bit like riding a bike, although I reckon all the core yoga must have helped too! Merry Christmas 🎄 to all my students 🎄🥂

“You must perform action absorbed in yoga, without attachment, in which success and failure are the same; it is said that yoga is equanimity” Bhagavad Gītā II.48 ~ translated by me!

Love that my Sanskrit homework is so relevant; spiritually and practically- especially as I prepare for my end of term Sanskrit exam this afternoon 😅

I have been a little quiet on this page recently as I have been hard at work on my dissertation for my MA in Traditions of Yoga & Meditation….however the end is in sight and in September I will be raring to teach asana, pranayama, visualisation and meditation in my studio again! In the meantime check out these beautiful Jain images from the SOAS ‘Pure Soul’ exhibition at the Brunei Gallery. “The soul itself is a pilgrimage. Take a dip within the soul” Anil Naik
