D&D RESULT

Another ten-man Barningham brought the curtain down on the 2026 season, with a very good win. Beating Cockerton by 92 runs to seal a 5th place finish in the league.

After Cockerton won the toss, we were put into bat. With a number of regulars missing, a 97 run partnership between top-scorer Toby Newton (60 from 68 balls) and Joe Blackburn (35 from 62 balls) proved to be the pivotal part of our innings. Skipper Harry Tunstall also adding 27 as we got to 165 for 8 from our 40 overs.

Cockerton's reply struggled to get going as they found runs were hard to come by. Opening bowler, Joe Blackburn made the early inroads. Taking 5 wickets before fellow opener, Carl Irving had managed to take his first. Finishing their 10 over spells with 5 for 35 and 4 for 38 respectively. Which left Mark Thompson with the honour of bowling a single ball to take the final wicket, caught and bowled. Cockerton bowled all out for 73.

D&D RESULT

With just the 10 men, Barningham managed to secure another 20 points with a 5 wicket win at Spennymoor yesterday.

A lost toss found Barningham in the field. But a solid start from our opening bowlers put us in a good position. Sammy Quallis who deserved more than his 2 for 45 and Mark Walker with the best figures of the day, took 3 for 32.

The wickets continued to be shared around as change bowlers Carl Irving (2 for 46) and Joe Blackburn (2 for 39) also chipped in. The remaining wicket was taken by Mark Thompson as he went for just 5 runs from his 3 overs.

With 180 to chase, Barningham set about it in a more reserved manner. Opener Toby Newton, scoring 22 from 42 balls as the going looked tough. Then Gary Walker, in his usual style, added 29 from 21 balls.

As he departed, the game could've gone either way, with 5 wickets left and 82 runs required. But a huge partnership, given the circumstances, between Sammy Quallis and Joe Blackburn saw us home. Sammy top scoring with 51 not out, as he bowed out for the season and Joe provided the perfect support, as he added 28 not out from 46 balls.

D&D RESULT

Barningham secured 20 points, with a huge 205 run win against Cliffe CC yesterday, to edge us up into 6th in the league.

After winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Barningham openers Rob Stanwix (28) and Toby Newton (36) got off to a good start. Before they both got out with the score at 66. Bringing Sammy Quallis to the crease, who smashed 96 from 72 balls. Including 9 fours and 5 sixes. As he got out, the damage had been done, as Gary Walker had also chipped in with a quick 29 from 19. Helping Barningham get to 257 for 8 from their 40 overs.

FENWICK CUP FINAL RESULT

On a scorching Sunday afternoon in Aldbrough St John, Barningham won the Fenwick Cup by a mammoth 110 runs against Cockerton.

After winning the toss, skipper Harry Tunstall chose to bat. And it didn't take long for Barningham to find themselves in what could've been a precarious position, with 2 wickets down for 24 runs within the first 4 overs.

A ship-steadying 63-run partnership between opener Rob Stanwix (37) and top-scorer Ralph Makepeace (38) helped to settle the innings.

A couple more quick wickets found Sammy Quallis (31*) and Mark Walker (33) together at the crease. Smashing 9 boundaries between them as they helped to propel Barningham to a total of 178.

Cockerton's chase never got going as Sammy Quallis and Joe Blackburn tore through their top order. Stifling any real chances Cockerton might've had of winning the cup. Both bowlers finishing with figures of 3 wickets for 10.

This brought about a test match survival style of batting from Cockerton as they looked to see out the remaining overs. Mark Walker (1 for 9) and Carl Irving (1 for 25) with the other wickets for Barningham.

In the end, Barningham came away with a convincing victory to win the Fenwick Cup for the second year in a row. 🏆

Huge thanks to Aldbrough St John CC for putting together a good competition and hosting the final.
